Minnesota Crookston Upended By Visiting Mavs on Friday Night

Crookston, Minn. -- Minnesota State raced out to an 18 point halftime lead and outscored the Golden Eagles by five in the second half on Friday night in a 85-62 win for the Mavericks, their seventh straight win.

 

Minnesota Crookston falls to 4-17.

 

MSU would score the first four points, but Minnesota Crookston would answer with a Donez Lindsey (Fr., G, Stockton, Calif.) finish in the paint.

 

MSU would stretch their lead to 7-2, but four straight points from Brayden Carlson (So., C, Woodbury, Minn.) and Alijah Washington (R-Jr., G, San Jose, Calif.) would cut the lead to 7-6.

 

Minnesota Crookston would get within three on three separate occasions early on, but MSU would extend their lead to 22-12 before a Brady Westphal (Fr., G, West Fargo, N.D.) layup in transition would cut into the lead at 22-14.

 

A Washington three would get the Golden Eagles back within seven at 24-17 past the midway point of the first 20 minutes.

 

MSU would finish the half extremely strong and take a 45-27 lead heading into the halftime break.

 

It would be a fantastic second half start for the Golden Eagles, as they would score the first four points of the half to cut into the lead at 45-31.

 

Minnesota Crookston would try to chip away, but the Mavericks seemed to have an answer on offense and pull away for the 23 point win.

 

Lindsey finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Spencer Swenson (Fr., F, Sauk Rapids, Minn.) added 11 points off the bench. Carlson finished with eight points.

 

Minnesota Crookston finished the game with 14 assists compared to just six assists, but finished 6-26 from three in the game.

 

The Golden Eagles will close out January tomorrow afternoon when they welcome in St. Cloud State for a 3:30 PM tip.
