Minneapolis, Minn. - The Golden Eagles went into Minneapolis to play the University of Minnesota this weekend, hoping to at least split with the Golden Gophers. Instead, they will return home on a two game losing streak following back-to-back 5-4 losses. In net today for the Golden Eagles was Adam Goody (Jr., G, Airdrie, Alberta) with an 8-1-0 record coming in. For the Golden Gophers, it was Owen Peterson, who had an 8-5-1 record coming in.

The Golden Eagles were quick to strike in today's game, with Mason Romfo (So., F, Langdon, N.D.) putting the team ahead 1-0 58 seconds into the opening period. Anthony Foster (Jr., F, Warroad, Minn.) assisted on the goal for his fourth assist of the weekend. Eight minutes later, Fox Dodds (5th, F, Watford City, N.D.) made it 2-0 with Alexander Bailey (5th, F/D, Crosby, N.D.) and Tyler Lorenz (So., D, Shakopee, Minn.) adding assists to the goal. The shots through one were 11-11, but the Golden Eagles had the lead where it mattered, up 2-0 entering the second.

The second period had another quick goal, with Logan Syrup (5th, F, Park River, N.D.) catapulting the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 lead just two and a half minutes in. Braden Van de Kraats (So., F, Medicine Hat, Alberta) had the lone assist. The Golden Gophers responded within a minute as Tyler Bishop broke through the wall of Goody. One minute later, Tyler Arneson made it a 3-2 game. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, the bleeding would not stop there. Five minutes after the second Golden Gophers goal, Keegan Johnson tied the game at three. The second period was certainly one to forget for the Golden Eagles, but they still had 20 more minutes to play.

The Golden Eagles, as they had all afternoon, opened the scoring early in the period when Braden Van de Kraats put one past Peterson to regain the lead for his team two and a half minutes into the third. That lead was gone within a few minutes as Cullen Grahek tied things back up at four. Two minutes later, the Golden Gophers had their first lead of the game following a goal by Brady Aubut. The Golden Eagles had 12:37 left in the game to make an attempt to tie the game again, just as the Golden Gophers had done twice now. But it was Owen Peterson who stole the show, and ultimately stole the game right out from under the Golden Eagles.

Following the back-to-back 5-4 losses, the Golden Eagles will now come home in search of redemption as they take on the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits for their final home weekend of the season. The Golden Eagles are hoping to rack up some wins in the final two weekends before they head to Blaine, Minnesota for the WCCHA Tournament, and a chance at the Carla Berg Cup.
