Hammond, Ind. - The Golden Eagles and Sault College went toe to toe in their Central Regional Round One matchup today, with the Golden Eagles winning 3-1. In net for the Golden Eagles was Adam Goody (Jr., G, Airdrie, Alberta) with an 11-3-0 record, a 2.57 goals against average, and a .909 save percentage. For the Cougars, it was Keenan Marks, who entered with a 9-6-0 record, a 3.21 goals against average, and a .913 save percentage.

The first period was a tight one, with both teams getting a feel for each other. It was Sault College, however, that struck first. Caleb Wood took advantage of a Golden Eagle turnover, and sprung Cameron Lemcke for the breakaway and he slid it past the left pad of Goody. Six minutes after that, Anthony Foster (Jr., F, Warroad, Minn.) put a shot on net that managed to trickle through Marks and in to tie the game at one. Tyler Lorenz (So., D, Shakopee, Minn.) and Riley Benson (Fr., D, Mentor, Minn.) had the assists. The Golden Eagles and Cougars were heading to first intermission at one apiece.

The second period was another tight one, with neither team scoring a goal. Both goalies were in control of this game, with the shots at 27-25 in favor of the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles had six seconds left on the powerplay when the second period came to an end, with both teams searching for their second goal of the game.

The third period was no different than the previous two. This time, however, the Golden Eagles were able to cash in on their opportunities. It was 11:24 into the third period when Aiden Morelli (Sr., F, Minot, N.D.) found a loose puck in the middle of Sault College's zone and whacked at it with the backhand. The puck floated up and right past the shoulder of Marks, breaking the tie and putting the Golden Eagles ahead 2-1 with Tyler Lorenz and Kadin Edwards (Fr., F, Crookston, Minn.) collecting the assists. The next 8:36 felt like an eternity, as the Cougars poured on the shots on Adam Goody. But, as he always does, Goody stood tall. With just 31 seconds on the clock, Anthony Foster took the puck away from a Cougars defender in the neutral zone, flipped the puck on the net, and sealed the deal for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles' opponent on day two of the Regional Tournament will be decided following the conclusion of tonight's two games. The Golden Eagles are now one win away from their first Nationals appearance in program history.
