SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston saw their season come to a close with a 4-1 loss to the University of Sioux Falls Friday, April 25 at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, S.D. The loss marks the second-straight season their slate concluded at the NSIC Tournament with a loss to the Cougars.

Minnesota Crookston ends the season with a 7-9 mark, while Sioux Falls advances to Saturday to play Minnesota State University. The Golden Eagles made the NSIC Tournament the last two seasons, a first for the program.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point to open Friday's NSIC Tournament match. Sofiya Janos and Chloe Siegfort earned a 6-2 victory over Daniela de Lucas Rivera (So., Madrid, Spain)  and Ariadna Solis Guals (So., Santpedor, Spain). At the No. 2 slot, Blaike Zander (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) and Asli Oktay tied Sydney Osburn and Ella Hancock 6-6 in regulation, but Hancock and Osburn narrowly won the tiebreaker 8-6 to take the doubles point. Kavya Singh (Jr., Agra, India) and Nadia Cases Mundet (So., Barcelona, Spain) did not finish their No. 3 doubles match, due to completion of the first two.

Cases Mundet picked up a two-set sweep of Ella Hancock to knot the score 1-1 overall. Cases Mundet improved to 5-2 at the No. 4 slot with the win. Janos earned a crucial two-set sweep from Janos over Oktay to put the Cougars ahead 2-1 overall. Oktay fell to 3-9 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 6 singles, Singh was defeated in two sets by Jaelyn Haler. Solis Guals fell in two sets at the No. 3 slot to Osburn. At No. 1 singles, De Lucas Rivera was up on Siegfort, while Zander had forced a third set at the No. 5 spot with Emily Thinnsen.

The Golden Eagles finished an outstanding season, as they have won seven matches or more in each of the last three seasons. They return a great core, as they bring back eight of 10 players, including five who played crucial roles Friday. Zander and Kaydance Hinn (Sr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) are the only two graduating seniors. They have meant a great deal to the growth of the program.
