Sioux Falls, S.D. – Minnesota Crookston played well against nationally-ranked Augustana, but were swept at the hands of the Vikings on Saturday. The Vikings mercy-ruled the Golden Eagles, 12-1, in game one and fell in game two, 2-0, after the Vikings scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 15-28 (3-13 NSIC).
Game One
The Vikings would score the first four runs of the game in the second, scoring four runs with a pair of outs to take a 4-0 lead.
Minnesota Crookston would answer with a run in the top of the third, as
Rayna French (So., C/OF, La Salle, Manitoba) would single in
Chayse Doering (Fr., OF, Shakopee, Minn.), cutting the Augustana lead to three.
The Vikings bats would come alive and score eight runs in the third and fourth innings, pulling away for the 12-1 win in five innings.
Minnesota Crookston did have some opportunities against one of the best pitchers in the nation, Grace Glanzer. The Golden Eagles finished with seven hits.
Riley Blake (Fr., P/OF, Las Vegas, Nev.) and
Haley Koch (Sr., C, Mondamin, Iowa) each added a pair of hits. French, Doering and
Whitnee Curry (Sr., IF, Lincoln, Neb.) had one hit apiece. The Golden Eagles left six runners on base.
Alexa Guilford (Jr., P, Crystal City, Manitoba) picked up the loss in the circle, moving to 4-2 on the year.
Game Two
In game two, the Golden Eagles would turn to freshman
Delaney Penner (Fr., P, Winkler, Manitoba) in the circle, looking for a great start. As she has all year long, the freshman delivered, albeit in a loss.
The game would be scoreless through the first five innings, but once again, Augustana would use some two out magic to score two runs in the sixth, taking a 2-0 lead.
That lead would be enough, as the Golden Eagles would get a two out single from
Madisen Yandle (Fr., SS, Lakeville, Minn.), but she would stay at first, as the Vikings would win the game and sweep the day.
Yandle had half of the hits for the Golden Eagles, going 2-3 on the day. Koch and
Irelyn Spencer (R-So., IF, Rapid City, S.D.) had one hit.
Penner continues her outstanding year in the circle. The freshman right-hander went the distance, giving up just two earned runs on seven hits, while striking out four and walking just one.
