Minnesota Crookston Softball Wins 10th Game of Season in Split on Friday

Viera, Fla. – Following their first off day in the great state of Florida, Minnesota Crookston softball, winners of four of their last six and riding a season long three game winning streak, were looking to continue their winning ways on Friday.

The Golden Eagles couldn't muster enough offense in their game one loss to the Hawks of St. Anselm, falling by a score of 4-2.

Game One
It would be an extremely fast start for the Golden Eagles. Chayse Doering (Fr., OF, Shakopee, Minn.) would double down the right field line and would later come around to score on a Rayna French (So., C, La Salle, Manitoba) RBI single.

The score would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the third, when the Hawks would score two runs on just one hit, taking a one run lead into the fourth.

Irelyn Spencer (R-So., IF, Rapid City, S.D.) would single to lead off the inning and she would later cross home, as Whitnee Curry (Sr., IF, Lincoln, Neb.) would lay down a perfect bunt and the play at first would be dropped by the second baseman, allowing Spencer to come around from second and tie the game up at two.

The Hawks would put up another two spot in the bottom of the fifth, this time on three hits.

That 4-2 lead would be enough for the Hawks, who would start their Florida trip on the right foot.

The Golden Eagles finished with four hits and were led by Spencer, who reached base all three times and was a perfect 2-2 in the game. French and Doering had the other two hits for the maroon and gold.

The Golden Eagles were solid in the circle, using three pitchers in the game, all freshmen; Sydney McMurdie (Fr., P/UT, Twin Falls, Idaho) earned the start and went two innings, while striking out three. Hannah Trzinski (Fr., P/1B, Stevens Point, Wis.) and Gabrielle Gomez (Fr., P/1B, Lakewood, Calif.) came on in relief and were solid.

Game Two
The Golden Eagles would waste no time in the second game. After going three up, three down in the first, the maroon and gold would strike for a pair of runs with a two-out base knock from Spencer, scoring Trzinski and French.

In the bottom of the second, the Golden Eagles would score four more runs, with the big knock coming off the bat of Trzinski, a two RBI single.

Madisen Yandle (Fr., SS, Lakeville, Minn.) added another run for her team, driving in Chayse Doering (Fr., OF, Shakopee, Minn.) with a shot up the middle, giving the Golden Eagles a 7-0 lead.

New Haven would try to mount a comeback, but their three run sixth inning would be too little, too late, as Alexa Guilford (Jr., P, Crystal City, Manitoba) would collect a two inning save, her second of the year.

The Golden Eagles collected nine hits in the game and were led by a trio of freshmen; Doering, Yandle and Trzinski each added two hits in the game.

Delaney Penner (Fr., P, Winkler, Manitoba) picked up her second win of the season, after giving up just two earned runs on three hits, in five innings of work.
