BEMIDJI, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team picked up a 5-2 victory over Bemidji State University in a non-conference tilt Friday, February 7 at Gillett Wellness Center in Bemidji.
The Golden Eagles improved to 1-1 with Friday's win, while Bemidji State dropped to 1-1 with the result on their home courts.
Minnesota Crookston opened the match by picking up the doubles point. Daniela de Lucas Rivera and Blaike Zander (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) picked up a 6-4 win over Mia Leshem, and Lauren Rutten to improve to 1-0. Asli Oktay (Fr., Istanbul, Turkey), and Abril Manas Hernandez earned a 6-2 win over Julia Lindseth, and Reagan Schwartzer to improve to 1-0. Kavya Singh (Jr., Agra, India), and Nadia Cases Mundet fell to 1-1 with a 7-6 loss to Valesca Rodriguez, and Ana Lucia Ibanez at the No. 2 slot.
In singles, Cases Mundet earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 2 slot over Rodriguez to move to 2-0 for the season. At the No. 3 spot, Zander defeated Ibanez Castro, 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot to improve to 2-0. At the No. 4 slot, Singh upended Rutten, 6-3, 6-3, to improve to 1-1. At No. 5 singles, Manas Hernandez defeated Lindseth, 6-4, 6-4 to improve to 1-1. At the No. 6 spot, Kaydance Hinn (Sr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) fell narrowly 3-6, 6-3, 5-10 to Britney Schommer to drop to 0-1. At the No. 1 spot, De Lucas Rivera had to withdraw from her match up 4-3.
Minnesota Crookston will face the University of North Dakota at Choice Health and Fitness Sunday, February 9 at 9 a.m.
