La Crosse, Wisc. - The Golden Eagle Hockey Team is set for their Day Three Regionals Matchup with the Maryville Saints. In net for the Golden Eagles was Tyler Swanson (Fr., G, Moorhead, Minn.) who finished the regular season with a 3-2-0 record, a 2.14 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. For the Saints, it was Zach Broxterman, who made 32 saves on 34 shots against in Maryville's win over Sault College on Day Two.

The first period did not start well for the Golden Eagles, with Frank Cardinale putting the Saints ahead with a goal just 33 seconds into the first. In fact, the Saints had the first six shots of the game as the Golden Eagles struggled to find their footing at first. Over the course of the opening 20 minutes the Golden Eagles did get back into their groove, finishing the first period leading in shots 13-9. But they could not put one past Broxterman, and the period came to an end at 1-0 Maryville.

The second period was an ugly one for the Golden Eagles, and it was a quick start yet again as the Saints scored just three minutes in with a goal from Zachary Lamotte. Four and a half minutes later, Jackson Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) picked up a loose puck on a rebound and put it in an open net to get the Golden Eagles on the board. Logan Syrup (Sr., F, Park River, N.D.) and Steven Musokranov (So., D, Plymouth, Minn.) picked up the assists. Just a minute later and the Golden Eagles were trailing by two again following a goal from Nick Salthouse. Two minutes later it was Elijah Goyer putting the Saints up 4-1. Following the fourth goal, the Golden Eagles made a goalie change, putting Wyatt Olsonawski (Jr., G, Hallock, Minn.) in net. Three and a half minutes later, Luke Headman put the Saints up 5-1. With just 3:39 left in the second frame, Jackson Dodds put one in the net on the powerplay, he was assisted by Zach Larson (Sr., D, Grand Forks, N.D.) and Jackson Fuller (Sr., F, Bloomington, Minn.) The Golden Eagles were heading to the third period trailing 5-2.

The third period, quite frankly, is the kind of thing that everyone will remember for the rest of their lives. It took a lot of time, but with four minutes left, Logan Syrup brought the Golden Eagles within two goals. His goal was assisted by Fox Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) and Jackson Fuller. With 1:21 left on the clock, Jackson Fuller brought it down to a one goal game, assisted by Tristan Morneault (Sr., F, Dieppe, New Brunswick) and Logan Syrup. With 28 seconds on the clock, and Olsonawski on the bench, the Golden Eagles dug a little deeper, and Logan Syrup slid the puck between the legs of Broxterman, and we were tied. His goal was assisted by Jackson Fuller and Tyler Lorenz (Fr., D, Shakopee, Minn.) and we were bound for overtime.

Overtime did not take long, the Golden Eagles had a chance, but it was mostly controlled by the Saints. Just 2:37 into overtime, Elijah Goyer ended the Golden Eagles season. The Golden Eagles outshot their opponent 48-31, but fell 6-5 in overtime.
