Crookston, Minn. - The final ACHA Regional Rankings have dropped, and the Golden Eagle Hockey team find themselves in the 10th spot. This means that they will draw a matchup against 11th ranked Adrian College in a matchup that will take place February 21st at 10 a.m. in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The Golden Eagles are in this spot due to a strong outing at the WCCHA Conference Tournament, despite losing two of their three games played.
So, how exactly did the Golden Eagles end up in the 10 spot? With a 19-8-0 record, they finished fourth in the overall WCCHA Standings, second in the WCCHA Midwest, and fourth in the WCCHA Tournament. The Golden Eagles had a record of 12-1-0 at home, 5-5-0 on the road, and 2-2-0 in neutral site games. This is the Golden Eagles third consecutive year in the Regional Tournament. Last year, the Golden Eagles had the bye on Friday, but fell to Maryville 3-2 in a tightly contested matchup. In 2022-2023, the Golden Eagles played Michigan State in round one, winning 3-1, before falling in round two in an 8-5 loss against Iowa.
This is a single elimination tournament, there are no consolation brackets, a win sends you to the next round and a loss sends the team back home. Winning the tournament guarantees a spot in the National Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri March 14th-18th. The Golden Eagles have yet to make an appearance at Nationals, but hope they can make a run at Regionals and earn a spot.
