St. Paul, Minn. - The Golden Eagles and Tommies were all set for another classic matchup Friday night, and that is exactly what the matchup delivered. In net for the Golden Eagles was #30, Adam Goody (So., G, Airdrie, Alberta) who entered the contest with a 7-3-0 record, along with a 2.71 goals against average, and a .907 save percentage. For the Tommies, Van Eigner got the start, entering the game with a 7-2-0 record, a 2.07 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.

The first period was fully controlled by the Golden Eagles, who looked poised for another dominant effort on their résumé. It all started with a Logan Syrup (Sr., F, Park River, N.D.) goal early in the first and Tyler Lorenz (Fr., D, Shakopee, Minn.) picking up the assist. The Tommies would get one first period goal, however, with Gino Gatti sliding one past Goody. The Golden Eagles continued to control the period as Mitchell Coleman (Sr., F, Hatton, N.D.) fired one past Eigner, this goal was assisted by Alexander Bailey (R-Jr., D, Crosby, N.D.) and the Golden Eagles were in front. But, the first period scoring did not stop there, the Golden Eagles bolstered their lead with a third first period goal and this time it was Mason Romfo (Fr., F, Langdon, N.D.) scoring his 28th goal of the year, his goal was assisted by Dylan Neubauer (Sr., D, Grand Forks, N.D.) who has been on quite a roll as of late.Â

The second period was intense, but a showcase for the two young netminders. It was a scoreless middle frame, and not for lack of trying. But Adam Goody and Van Eigner stood tall and shut it all down. Both faced well over 30 shots on the night, with Goody facing 35 and Eigner facing 39. The teams would head for the final 20 with the Golden Eagles ahead 3-1.Â

The third period is where it all unraveled on the Golden Eagles. It started with a goal from Tommies forward Wyatt Olson beating Goody for a goal to cut the Golden Eagles lead to just one, this goal also put all of the pressure on the University of Minnesota Crookston. Morgan Spetz would add to the Tommies goal total, making it a 3-3 game in the third period. Before you knew it, Gino Gatti had collected both his second goal and the lead for the Tommies. Logan Syrup would even things back up with his second goal of the game, he had some help from Anthony Foster (So., F, Warroad, Minn.) and Mason Romfo. With things knotted up, both teams were battling for that next goal, knowing that whoever scored it was ultimately going to win. Sadly for the Golden Eagles, it was not their night. Jed England got the Tommies the lead back, and that would be the dagger. The Golden Eagles fell to the Tommies 5-4.

The Golden Eagles and Tommies are right back at it tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Vadnais Heights, Minn. for their final meeting of the regular season.
