Crookston, Minn. - Golden Eagle Hockey took the ice for game two of their two game series against the University of St. Thomas, but this time it was St. Thomas who took the win with a final score of 3-2. Tyler Swanson (So., G, Moorhead, Minn.) was in net for the Golden Eagles. Swanson entered the game with a 3-0-0 record, a .933 save percentage and a 1.33 goals against average. The Tommies turned to Matthew Perrault.
The first period was heavily dominated by the Tommies, but Swanson stole the show. Swanson saved all 12 shots he faced while Perrault saved the four he faced. The physicality from last night's game was not nearly as high, but the intensity stayed the same. The teams headed to the second tied at zero.
The Tommies broke the ice early into the second period, with Brennan Hogan scoring just four minutes in. Less than a minute later, Anthony Madigan got a breakaway and took full advantage of it to make it a 2-0 game. The Tommies held onto that lead for most of the second period before Kadin Edwards (Fr., F, Crookston, Minn.) pushed the puck through to get the Golden Eagles within one. His goal was assisted by Ben Hines (Jr., F, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) and Tyler Lorenz (So., D, Shakopee, Minn.) to bring the score to 2-1 entering the third.
The third period saw one goal from each team. Anthony Madigan scored his second of the game just two minutes into the third, and it was back to a two goal game. The Golden Eagles kept pushing, trying to complete their second two goal comeback in two days, and Jackson Dodds (5th, F, Watford City, N.D.) brought it back to a one goal game with assists from Fox Dodds (5th, F, Watford City, N.D.) and Riley Benson (Fr., D, Mentor, Minn.) and the momentum began to shift. The Golden Eagles fought hard, but ultimately fell short and dropped just their second game of the season.
At 6-2-0, the Golden Eagles are on the road next week as they take on the North Dakota State University Bison.
