Golden Eagles Welcome Rival St. Thomas to Town

Celebration

Hockey | 11/5/2025 3:29:00 PM

Crookston, Minn. - The Golden Eagles are currently in the process of a hot start, going 5-1-0 in their first six games, but enter the biggest weekend of the season fresh off of their first loss. The Golden Eagles will be welcoming in the Tommies for what should be an intense weekend of hockey. St. Thomas comes into this matchup having started the year at 3-2-0 with a +1 goal differential. Their two losses this season both came to the University of Minnesota.

This is a matchup that has not been kind to the Golden Eagles, as they have a 1-5-1 record against the Tommies and have now lost three straight. The Golden Eagles have scored 17 goals against the Tommies, averaging 2.43 goals per game. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles have allowed 25 goals per game for an average of 3.57. These games have a tendency to be close the whole way through, with the largest margin of victory being two goals, which St. Thomas has won by on three separate occasions.

When it comes to games between the Golden Eagles and the Tommies, one position matters more than any other. Which is why there will be two Golden Eagles Players to Watch this weekend. Netminders Adam Goody (Jr., G, Airdrie, Alberta) and Tyler Swanson (So., G, Moorhead, Minn.) have both had strong starts to the season, and will be key factors in this weekend's matchup. Goody's record this year is 2-1-0 with a 2.67 goals against average and a .902 save percentage. He's coming off of the aforementioned loss to the Jackrabbits last Saturday where he allowed five goals on 36 shots against. Otherwise, Goody has been rock solid in net thus far, with 30 saves on 31 shots against when he played the Dragons, and 13 saves on 15 shots against when he played the Fighting Hawks. Swanson enters with a 3-0-0 record, a 1.33 goals against average and a .934 save percentage. His game against the Jackrabbits was unbelievable, stopping 37 of the 38 shots he faced. That was by far the most action he's seen all season, as he saved 14 shots on 15 against versus the Dragons and had six saves against eight shots in his start against the Fighting Hawks.

The Golden Eagles and Tommies are set for puck drop on Friday night at the Crookston Sports Center for a 7 p.m. start. It is the biggest matchup of the season thus far.
