Crookston, Minn. - The Golden Eagles are off to a hot start, now sitting at 4-0-0 after defeating the University of North Dakota by a combined score of 20-4. This is the first meeting between these two programs, which the Golden Eagles have been experiencing quite often as of late. The Jackrabbits are off to a hot start this year in their own rights, starting the year off with a 6-1-0 record.
Defense will be of the utmost importance this weekend, as the Jackrabbits have six skaters at or above a point per game this season. Dawson Wirth is leading that group as he has six goals and seven assists for 13 points through seven games. In net Addison Ronning has been a force of nature. He sits with a 3-0-0 record, a .67 goals against average and a .978 save percentage. Ronning's save percentage is the third best for all of the ACHA Division Two goaltenders with a minimum of three games played.
Leading the way for the Golden Eagles are both Fox Dodds (5th, F, Watford City, N.D.) and Mason Romfo (So., F, Langdon, N.D.) with nine points apiece. Romfo has four goals and five assists while Dodds has five goals and four assists. Leading the way in net for the Golden Eagles is Adam Goody (Jr., G, Airdrie, Alberta) who has a 2-0-0 record along with a 1.5 goals against average and a .935 save percentage.
The Golden Eagles Player to Watch this weekend is Dylan Neubauer (5th, D, Grand Forks, N.D.) who had one of the best games of his collegiate career in Saturday's game with his second ever three plus point game, all coming from assists. Neubauer has been a great leader for the Golden Eagles and this year was rewarded with being named one of the alternate captains, an honor that Neubauer has more than earned. Neubauer has a goal and three assists this season, but his defensive play will be the key this weekend.
The Golden Eagles and the Jackrabbits are set for puck drop this Friday at 7 p.m. in Brookings, South Dakota at the Larson Ice Center. Saturday's game will be at 11 a.m.
