Crookston, Minn. - Golden Eagle Hockey is off to a solid start following 4-1 and 3-1 wins over Minnesota State University Moorhead. Both Adam Goody (Jr., G, Airdrie, Alberta) and Tyler Swanson (So., G, Moorhead, Minn.) picked up wins this weekend. Swanson made 14 saves on 15 shots on Friday, while Goody made 30 saves on 31 shots on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles now turn their attention to the University of North Dakota, a team that the Golden Eagles have had great success against. The Golden Eagles hold a 10-0-0-1 record against the University of North Dakota, with that tie coming in 2021, since then, the Golden Eagles have won six straight by an average of 5.66 goals. The largest win in that stretch was an 11-2 victory in 2023. This weekend will also have a brotherly competition of sorts with Tyler Swanson's brother Riley playing goalie for the Fighting Hawks. Against UND, the Golden Eagles average 6.55 goals per game, totaling 72 in their 11 games against each other. The Fighting Hawks average 1.72 goals per game when facing the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagle Player to Watch this week is another new addition to the squad this season. Brandon Kelly (Jr., F/D, Minto, N.D.) who transferred to the Golden Eagles after two years with The University of Mary's ACHA Division One team. In his first weekend as a Golden Eagle, Kelly recorded two assists, with both coming in Saturday's game. He had the secondary assist on the game winning goal, scored by Dylan Neubauer (5th, D, Grand Forks, N.D.), and the primary assist on the empty netter that put the game to bed, scored by Braden Van de Kraats (So., F/D, Medicine Hat, Alberta).
The Golden Eagles and Fighting Hawks are set for puck drop at 7 p.m. this Friday at the Crookston Sports Center. They will return to action on Saturday with puck drop set for 2 p.m. for their final game of this two week home stand. The Golden Eagles head to Brookings, South Dakota next weekend for their first matchup with South Dakota State University in program history.
