CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston men's golf team is tied for third of 13 teams at the USF Invitational at the Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa. The Golden Eagles shot an even-par 288 Monday. 

Minnesota Crookston had won back-to-back tournaments coming into their final tournament of the fall. The Golden Eagles have five rounds of 288 or lower this fall. They came in only three rounds under 288 since 2009. The Golden Eagles are within six strokes of Winona State University in the lead, as they try to capture their third-straight tournament victory.

The Golden Eagles were led on the first day by Andrew Wilhelm (Jr., Fargo, N.D.), who shot a two-under-par 70. Wilhelm is in fifth place on the leaderboard. He is just two strokes behind three players in a tie for first.

Jack Justesen (So., Hawley, Minn.), Gannon Walsh (Sr., Belgrade, Minn.), and Holdyn Evjen (So., Hermantown, Minn.) are in a tie for 15th after shooting a par 72. Connor Czirjak (Jr., Calgary, Alberta) shot a 74. Marc Bofarull Balleste (Jr., Barcelona, Spain) carded a 75 in the first round, as did Carson Shultis (Sr., Fargo, N.D.).

The Golden Eagles are five strokes back of the University of Sioux Falls in first place. They are tied with Augustana University, and Bemidji State University by one stroke. 

Minnesota Crookston concludes the USF Invitational Tuesday, October 14 in Larchwood, Iowa.
