CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston athletic department announced the hiring of Lindsey Mortimer as assistant equestrian coach. Mortimer brings to the Golden Eagle equestrian program an extensive background as a trainer, coach, and collegiate equestrian. Mortimer was most recently the head coach for Capital City Equestrian in Austin, Texas, and a head trainer/lesson director at Switch Willo Stables.
"I am incredibly excited to welcome Lindsey to Crookston this August," said Head Coach Haley Pembroke. "Her background in the Equitation, extensive experience coaching junior riders, and time as a trainer combined with her experience with the NCEA, IHSA, and IEA formats will be an invaluable asset to our student-athletes. I am grateful to have her by my side going into this season, and I am very confident in her ability to help me take this program to new heights."
Mortimer founded an Interscholastic Equestrian (IEA) team called Capital City Equestrian in 2018. During her time as coach, Mortimer had several riders qualify and place at IEA Nationals, as well as consistent High Point Team accolades. As the head trainer and lesson director at Switch Willo Stables from 2020-24, she had the opportunity to work at one of the oldest and largest barns in the Austin, Texas metropolitan area. She trained multiple client horses, as well as instructing all hunter jumper skilled riders. Mortimer took horses and riders to national shows, and was also the instructor for 130 rider lesson programs.
Prior to her role at Switch Willo Stables, Mortimer was the head trainer at ATX Equine in Dripping Springs, Texas. She also worked as a trainer at Bee Cave Riding Center in Bee Cave, Texas from 2015-19. At Bee Cave Riding Center, she instructed many different skill sets in hunter, jumper, and equitation. She took multiple riders to local and national competitions.
As a collegiate equestrian, Mortimer competed at both Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University. She was a part of Texas A&M's inaugural NCEA team. She transferred to Texas Tech, where she competed on their IHSA team. Mortimer was the Zone 7 Champion in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat, and the Reserve Champion in Intermediate Equitation over Fences, qualifying her for the IHSA National Championships in 2009. Prior to college, she qualified four years in a row for the National Pony Finals.
Mortimer earned her degree in architecture history from Texas Tech University in 2010.
