Christian Bowen-Webb Buries Two Free Throws with Less Than Five Seconds Win in Exhilarating Victory over Bemidji State

Crookston, Minn. – Christian Bowen-Webb (Jr., G, Atchison, Kan.) buried two free throws with 4.9 seconds left in the game to give the Golden Eagles a thrilling 84-83 win over Bemidji State on Friday night in Crookston.

The Golden Eagles improve to 2-6 on the year and 0-1 in NSIC.

The first half should've been an indication on how thrilling the game would be. The Beavers would jump out to a 6-2 lead, but Andrew Stokes (Jr., F, Westchester, Ill.) would finish in the paint, cutting the lead to 6-4.

On the next possession, Micah Garrett (Jr., G, Portland, Ore.) would cash in on a three, giving the Golden Eagles a one point lead.

From that point, the Golden Eagles and Beavers would have three ties, but Ben Hoverson (Sr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) would bank in a three with the shot clock expiring, giving the Golden Eagles a three point lead at 17-14.

The game would go back-and-forth, but the Beavers would take a 28-22 lead, but Stokes would halt the run with a layup in the paint.

Chandler Meeks (R-So., G, Omaha, Neb.) and Reid Grant (Sr., G, Johnston, Iowa) would help the Golden Eagles get within four at 34-30, with a pair of layups.

Landon Dimler (Fr., F, Mankato, Minn.) would connect on two straight threes to help the Golden Eagles within five, late in the first half.

The Beavers would lead by nine heading into the halftime break at 49-40.

The Beavers would score the first points of the half, but the maroon and gold would cut it to six following a Grant three.

Trailing 55-49, the Golden Eagles would go on a 7-0 run to retake the lead, with the help of Stokes.

With 10:46 remaining in the game, the Beavers would take a 66-59 lead, but a massive put back dunk by Hoverson would get the Golden Eagles back within five and would get within three on a fast break layup from Bowen-Webb.

Garrett would get the Golden Eagles back the lead with a layup in transition.

The game would get wild from that point.

Meeks would finish off the old-fashioned three-point play with 5:48 remaining in the game, giving the Golden Eagles a 74-71 lead.

BSU would answer and take a 79-76 lead, but Bowen-Webb and Garrett would answer with a pair of buckets for a one point lead at 80-79.

Meeks would eventually give the Golden Eagles the lead at three following a pair of free throws, but the Beavers and Daxton Dayley would answer with a bucket through contact, cutting the lead to one. Dayley would miss the free throw, but an offensive rebound would allow the Beavers to take an 83-82 lead late in the game.

Grant would miss a potential go-ahead shot in the paint and the Beavers would pull down the miss. On the ensuing inbounds, Caiden Swenby (Fr., G, Fertile, Minn.), would come up with the largest play of the night, collecting a steal on a Beaver inbound.

Bowen-Webb would get fouled and would bury a pair of free throws, giving the Golden Eagles an 84-83 lead with four seconds remaining.

Tate Olson had a look at a three for the win, but it fell off the rim, giving the Golden Eagles a thrilling one point win at home.

Minnesota Crookston had five in double-figures, as Grant led the way with 18 points, six rebounds and six more assists for the best passer in the Northern Sun. Meeks and Stokes each finished with 13 points, while Garrett added 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Jordan Mitchell (R-Sr., F, Columbus, Ohio) was outstanding once again, finishing with 10 points and nine boards.

Hoverson added seven points on a perfect night shooting, while Bowen-Webb and Dimler each added six points in the win.

The Golden Eagles offensive onslaught continued tonight, as they shot better than 50 percent from the field and were 6-16 from long range.

The game featured 19 lead changes.
