Crookston, Minn - The Golden Eagles are back in action for their final series of the fall semester with the visiting Johnnies. The Golden Eagles looked to give Tyler Swanson (Fr., G, Moorhead, Minn.) his first career start. The Johnnies started Ben Monsivais, who entered the game with a 1-1-0 record, a 4.54 goals against average, and a .895 save percentage.
The Golden Eagles came flying out of the gate early, getting plenty of shots on net and shutting down the Johnnies completely. Tristan Morneault (Sr., F, Dieppe, New Brunswick) opened the scoring 7:54 into the first, with assists from Jackson Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) and Aiden Morelli (Jr., F, Minot, N.D.). It was not long before that lead was extended as Fox Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) netted his ninth goal of the season, Anthony Foster (So., F, Warroad, Minn.) and Mason Romfo (Fr., F, Langdon, Minn.) had the assists. Just two and a half minutes later, Tristan Morneault scored his second goal of the contest to make it a 3-0 lead. Jackson Dodds picked up the lone assist.
But the scoring would not stop there, Mitchell Coleman (Sr., F, Hatton, N.D.) made it 4–0 with just seven minutes left in the first frame. Tyler Lorenz (Fr., D, Shakopee, Minn.) and Ben Hines (So., F, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) assisted on Coleman's tally. Dylan Neubauer (Sr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) added the fifth and final goal of the opening period, Alexander Bailey (R-Jr., D, Crosby, N.D.) and Aiden Morelli were credited with the helpers.
It only took a minute and 21 seconds of the second period before Anthony Foster found the back of the net, with assists by Fox Dodds and Dylan Neubauer. Fox Dodds scored his second of the night two and a half minutes later, Mason Romfo and Logan Syrup (Sr., F, Park River, N.D.) with the assists. One minute later, Coleman put up his second of the night, Griffen Sonstegard (Jr., D, Baudette, Minn.) picked up his third assist of the season. With 7:44 left in the middle period, Jackson Dodds scored to make it 9-0 with Tristan Morneault and Aiden Morelli assisting on the goal. The Golden Eagles would make it 10-0 before the end of the third off a goal from Ben Hines and assisted by Mitchell Coleman and Alexander Bailey.
The Golden Eagles entered the final 20 minutes leading 10-0 and outshooting the Johnnies 50-8, however, the Golden Eagles were not done. Just five minutes into the third, Fox Dodds scored his third goal of the night to secure the hat trick, he was assisted by new linemates Anthony Foster and Mason Romfo. Tyler Lorenz scored to make it 12-0 just a couple minutes later, and this time it was Alexander Bailey and Aiden Morelli picking up the assists. The Golden Eagles wanted to ensure that they played a full 60 minute contest, and they did just that when Griffen Sonstegard. Both of the players that assisted on his goal picked up their first points of the season, that being Connor O'Donoghue (So., F, Champlin, Minn.) and Thomas Fuller (So., F, Bloomington, Minn.) This assist would also mark O'Donoghue's first career point.
The Golden Eagles would secure the 13-0 victory, in doing so they also outshot the Johnnies 70-10. The leading scorers for the Golden Eagles tonight were: Fox Dodds with three goals and an assist for four points, Aiden Morelli with four assists, Mitchell Coleman with two goals and an assist for three points, Tristan Morneault two goals and an assist for three points, Anthony Foster with a goal and two assists for three points, Jackson Dodds with a goal and two assists for three points, Mason Romfo with three assists, Alexander Bailey with three assists, Dylan Neubauer with a goal and an assist for two points, Griffen Sonstegard with a goal and an assist for two points, Tyler Lorenz with a goal and an assist for two points, and Ben Hines with a goal and an assist. Tyler Swanson would earn his first career win and first career shutout in his first game, stopping all 10 shots faced.
