Golden Eagles Dominate Late to Earn Win Over Red Hot Badgers

Hockey | 11/8/2024 9:55:00 PM

Madison, Wis. - The Golden Eagles entered this matchup knowing one thing, the Badgers were searching for revenge on the team that kept them out of the WCCHA Championship last season. The Golden Eagles would turn to the same goalie that shut the Badgers out in that game, as Adam Goody (So., G, Airdrie, Alberta) would earn his fifth start. He came into the game at 3-1-0, with a 1.38 goals against average and a .948 save percentage. For the Badgers, it was Nick Manchester. He entered the evening at 3-0-0 with a 2.67 goals against average and a .884 save percentage.

Each team would score just once in the first period, and it was the Golden Eagles that broke the ice first. Jackson Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) buried his seventh goal of the season, Fox Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) and Logan Syrup (Sr., F, Park River, N.D.) earned the assists. Dominic Valentini would even the scoring for the Badgers just three minutes later. The goalies were the stars of the show early, with each saving nine shots.

The goalies continued to be the story in the second period. The pair of netminders allowed zero goals for the first nine minutes, but Jackson Fuller (Sr., F, Bloomington, Minn.) put an end to that, scoring his seventh goal of the season. He was assisted by Mason Romfo (Fr., F, Langdon, N.D.) and Anthony Foster (So., F, Warroad, Minn.) The rest of the second period would go by without another goal, despite the high quality scoring chances. Both goalies made 10 saves, but Goody was shutting down Wisconsin's attack once again.

Just six and a half minutes into the final frame, Cole Laden tied things back up for the Badgers, as we were in for an intense final 13 minutes. Goody and Manchester would go back and forth exchanging key save after key save, and with 4:51 left on the clock, the Golden Eagles would break the tie. Ben Hines (So., F, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) rifled his second goal of the season past Manchester, and the crowd fell silent. Hines was assisted by Mitchell Coleman (Sr., F, Hatton, N.D.) and Dylan Neubauer (Sr., D, Grand Forks, N.D.) Three and a half minutes later, Anthony Foster scored to make it 4-2, with Alexander Bailey (R-Jr., D, Crosby, N.D.) picking up the assist. Logan Syrup would put the final dagger in as he scored with 23 seconds on the clock, with Aiden Morelli (Jr., F, Minot, N.D.) adding an assist. The Golden Eagles would close the game out with a 5-2 win.

Adam Goody would earn his fourth win with 30 saves on 32 shots faced. Anthony Foster scored a goal and an assist, Logan Syrup also picked up a goal and an assist. The Golden Eagles move to 7-2-0 on the season, and are now +33 in goal differential.

The Golden Eagles and Badgers will finish their series tomorrow, November 9th, at 10 a.m. back in the Subzero Ice Center.
