St. Paul, Minn. - The Golden Eagles entered today with a chance to move to 6-2-0 on the season and sweep the Royals. The Golden Eagles would turn to Wyatt Olsonawski (Jr., G, Hallock, Minn.) who came into the game with a 2-1-0 record, a 3.02 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. The Royals would start Dawson Sellner, who has a 1-1-0 record with a 5.76 goals against average and an .856 save percentage.
The game would see three goals scored in the first 10 minutes. Mitchell Coleman (Sr., F, Hatton, N.D.) would score his first goal since November of 2023. He was assisted by Alexander Bailey (R-Jr., D, Crosby, N.D.) and Ben Hines (So., F, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) One minute later, the Royals would even the score at one with a goal from Adam Bricker. One more minute would go by and Ben Hines would earn the lead right back with his first goal as a Golden Eagle, he was assisted by Mitchell Coleman and Alexander Bailey. The first period would end with a 2-1 lead for the University of Minnesota Crookston.
Just over a minute into the second period, Mason Romfo (Fr., F, Langdon, N.D.) would make it 3-1 with assists from Anthony Foster (So., F, Warroad, Minn.) and Zach Larson (Sr., D, Grand Forks, N.D.) Logan Syrup (Sr., F, Park River, N.D.) made it 4-1 just five minutes later, as he was assisted by Jacson Fuller (Sr., F, Bloomington, Minn.) and Anthony Foster. Logan Syrup would score again eight minutes later with assists from Fox Dodds (Sr., F, Watford City, N.D.) and Jackson Dodds (Sr., F, Watford City, N.D.) One minute later, Aiden Morelli (Jr., F, Minot, N.D.) made it 6-1 with Ben Hines and Alexander Bailey picking up their third points each. The second period would end at 6-1.
Mason Romfo got the first goal of the final 20 minutes with 10:55 left on the clock. His goal was unassisted, and it gives him six goals in total this weekend. 40 seconds later, the Royals would get a goal from Elias Studier, but it was too little too late for an attempt at a comeback bid. Wyatt Olsonawski would shut the door on the Royals, totaling 22 saves on 24 shots. The Golden Eagles would close the game out with a 7-2 win.
The Golden Eagles point leaders for the afternoon were Ben Hines with a goal and two assists, Alexander Bailey with three assists, Logan Syrup with two goals, Mason Romfo with two goals, Mitchell Coleman with a goal and an assist, and Anthony Foster with two assists.
The Golden Eagles are back in action Friday, November 8th at 6:45 p.m. in Madison, Wis. to take on the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
