Grand Forks, N.D. – Minnesota Crookston tennis wrapped-up the home portion of their schedule this morning against the University of Mary.
The Golden Eagles got a pair of single wins by
Ashley Chomyn (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) and
Madeleine Schneider (Jr., Cartringen, Germany), who won her 13
th match of the season, but ultimately fell 5-2 to the Marauders at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks.
The Golden Eagles lost all three doubles matches.
Blaike Zander (So., Bismarck, N.D.) and
Kavya Singh (So., Agra, India) lost 6-1, as did Schneider and
Sarah Velasquez (Sr., Chino, Calif.).
Samantha Gutierrez (Jr., Riverside, Calif.) and
Tasha Achermann (Sr., Motley, Minn.) fought hard, but fell 6-4.
In singles, Chomyn had a clean sweep of her Marauder competitor, not losing a set, winning 6-0, 6-0. Schneider went the distance. She lost 4-6, but then came back and was able to win 6-2 and 10-2 over the Marauder number one, Chloe Chong.
The Golden Eagles celebrated five seniors this afternoon, who competed in their final match at home as a Golden Eagle: Achermann, Chomyn, Gutierrez, Velasquez and
Michelle Swyter.
Minnesota Crookston will close out the regular season in two weeks with a pair of matches against Southwest Minnesota State in Virginia, Minn., on April 14 and Minnesota State in Bemidji, Minn., on April 15.
