CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team is set to take on the University of Sioux Falls March 24 at 5 p.m., and Augustana University Sunday, March 26 at 9:30 a.m., at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
The Golden Eagles are off to their best start in program history with a 7-4 (2-3 NSIC) record. Minnesota Crookston already has five more wins than they did in 2022.
Madeleine Schneider (Jr., Gartringen, Germany) has been one of the top singles players in the NSIC. She is a two-time NSIC Player of the Week and is 10-1. Schneider has set the single-season wins mark at No. 1 singles and the career mark at No. 1 singles.
Blaike Zander (So., Bismarck, N.D.) is 4-7 at the No. 2 singles slot.
Kavya Singh (So., Agra, India) comes in with a 7-3 mark at the No. 3 slot.
Michelle Swyter (Sr., Perham, Minn.) is 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Sarah Velasquez (Sr., Chino, Calif.) is 7-3 at the No. 5 slot, while
Ashley Chomyn (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) is 5-4 at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles, the No. 1 pair of Zander and Singh are 7-3. The No. 2 pairing of Schneider and Velasquez come in with a 5-5 record. The No. 3 pair of
Tasha Achermann (Sr., Motley, Minn.) and Swyter are 1-3.
Sioux Falls enters the weekend with a 7-4 (2-3 NSIC) record. The Cougars are led by Sydney Osburn, with a 4-0 mark at No. 2 singles. Ella Hancock is 2-1 at the No. 3 singles slot. In doubles, the No. 1 pair of Hancock and Osburn are 2-3.
Augustana is 11-2 (5-0 NSIC) coming into this weekend. The Vikings are propelled by Florentia Hadjigeorgiou, who is 9-2 at the No. 1 spot. Senem Ocal comes in with a 9-2 record at No. 2 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of Aleksandra Kistanova and Gabriela Jancikova are 7-3.
