DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 6 -1 to St. Cloud State University Sunday, March 19 at the Duluth Indoor Athletics Complex in Duluth, Minn.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 7-4 (2-3 NSIC) with Sunday's loss. UMN Crookston continues their best start in program history despite Sunday's loss. St. Cloud State improved to 6-4 with Sunday's win.
Madeleine Schneider (Jr., Gartringen, Germany) continued her phenomenal start to the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Oriana Grott. Schneider is 10-1 with the victory over Grott.
Blaike Zander (So., Bismarck, N.D.) fell 6-2, 6-1 to Maria Paz Aoki at the No. 2 singles spot.
Kavya Singh (So., Agra, India) was defeated 6-2, 6-4 by Claudia Munoz Perez. At the No. 4 spot,
Michelle Swyter (Sr., Perham, Minn.) fell 6-4, 6-1 to Arisa Kashima. At the No. 5 slot,
Sarah Velasquez (Sr., Chino, Calif.) was defeated 6-1, 6-4 by Johana Brower. At the No. 6 spot,
Ashley Chomyn (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) was upended 6-4, 6-1 by Maria Molitor.
In doubles, Zander and Singh played a great match and picked up a 7-5 win over Paz Aoki and Munoz Perez. At the No. 2 doubles spot, Schneider and Velasquez were defeated 6-1 by Brower and Grott. At the No. 3 slot,
Tasha Achermann (Sr., Motley, Minn.) and Swyter were upended by Molitor and Olivia Fredrickson, 6-2.
The Golden Eagles host the University of Sioux Falls Friday, March 24 at 5 p.m. at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
