DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 5-2 to the University of Minnesota Duluth Saturday, March 18 at the Duluth Indoor Sports Complex in Duluth, Minn.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 7-3 with Saturday's loss, while UMD improved to 7-2 with the win. UMN Crookston continues to have their best season in program history. They are 2-2 in NSIC play in 2023.
Madeleine Schneider (Jr., Gartringen, Germany) improved to 9-1 with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Shay Callaway. Schneider is the all-time leader at No. 1 singles in Golden Eagle history. Schneider has 16 singles wins in her career. She is 11 singles wins away from surpassing Catherine Brown for the most singles victories in program history.
At No. 2 singles,
Blaike Zander (So., Bismarck, N.D.) fell to 4-6 with a three-set (6-3, 3-6, 4-6) to Mallory Lithun. At the No. 3 slot,
Kavya Singh (So., Agra, India) improved to 7-2 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Abby Johnson. At No. 4 singles,
Michelle Swyter (Sr., Perham, Minn.) fell to 6-3 with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Carly Chaney. At the No. 5 spot,
Sarah Velasquez (Sr., Chino, Calif.) was defeated 6-1, 6-4 by Olivia Honley. At the No. 6 singles position.
Ashley Chomyn (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) was upended 6-4, 6-3 by Laura Palmer.
In doubles, Zander and Singh were defeated 7-5 by Callaway and Lithun. At the No. 2 spot, Schneider and Velasquez were upended 7-5 by Johnson and Palmer. At No. 3 doubles, Swyter and
Tasha Achermann (Sr., Motley, Minn.) fell 6-4 to Chaney and Horley.
The Golden Eagles face St. Cloud State University Sunday, March 19 at 9 a.m. in Duluth, Minn.
