ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team continued their historic season with a 6-1 win over Bentley University at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The Golden Eagles improved to 7-2 with the victory. They have almost doubled their previous most wins in a season, set in 2014 (four). Bentley fell to 3-8.
In singles, No. 1 player
Madeleine Schneider (Jr., Gartringen, Germany) set the single-season wins record at No. 1 singles with her eighth victory of the season. She defeated Makena Romagnano, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 2 slot,
Blaike Zander (So., Bismarck, N.D.) fell 6-2, 6-2 to Remi LaSage. At the No. 3 spot,
Kavya Singh (So., Agra, India) defeated Zoe Chin, 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 4 spot,
Michelle Swyter (Sr., Perham, Minn.) upended Chloe Arsenault, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 5 singles,
Sarah Velasquez (Sr. Chino, Calif.) upended Anna Higgins, 6-4, 6-4. At the No. 6 spot,
Ashley Chomyn (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) defeated Rachel Holden, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles, the No. 1 pair of Zander, Singh defeated Romagnano and Lesage, 7-6. At the No. 2 slot, Schneider and Velasquez defeated Chin and Arsenault, 6-0. At the No. 3 spot,
Tasha Achermann (Sr., Motley, Minn.) and
Kaydance Hinn (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.) defeated Taylor Morris and Miruna Constantin, 6-4.
Minnesota Crookston returns to action Saturday, March 18 against the University of Minnesota Duluth at 3:30 p.m.
