ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team continued their historic start with a 7-0 victory over Baldwin Wallace University to commence their trip to Florida. The Golden Eagles upended the Yellowjackets at the Sanlando Tennis Complex in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Minnesota Crookston improved their mark to 6-2, the best in program history. Baldwin Wallace dropped to 1-8 with Friday's loss.
In doubles, the No. 1 pair of
Kavya Singh (So., Agra, India) and
Blaike Zander (So., Bismarck, N.D.) improved to 5-2 with a 6-1 win over Gabriela Heideman and Kierstyn Yates. At the No. 2 spot,
Madeleine Schneider (Jr., Gartringen, Germany) and
Sarah Velasquez (Sr., Chino, Calif.) improved to 5-3 with a 6-1 win over Emma Trost and Juliet Penrod. At No. 3 doubles,
Tasha Achermann (Sr., Motley, Minn.) and
Kaydance Hinn (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.) won by default.
At the No. 1 singles spot, Schneider built on her career-best mark at No. 1 singles, moving to 7-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Heideman. At the No. 2 spot, Zander defeated Yates, 6-1, 6-1, to improve to 4-4. At the No. 3 slot, Singh upended Trost, 6-0, 6-0, to move to 5-2. At the No. 4 spot,
Michelle Swyter (Sr., Perham, Minn.) defeated Gillian Brown, 6-1, 6-2, to improve to 5-3. At the No. 5 slot, Velasquez defeated Penrod, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 6 spot,
Ashley Chomyn (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) won by default.
