GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 6-1 to St. Cloud State University Friday, February 3 at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 1-1 with Friday's loss. The Huskies opened the 2023 season with a 1-0 mark.
Minnesota Crookston picked up a singles win on Friday.
Madeleine Schneider (Jr., Gartringen, Germany) moved to 2-0 for UMN Crookston at the No. 1 singles slot with a 6-1,5-7,7-5 win over Orianna Grott.
In doubles, Minnesota Crookston played two very tight matches.
Blaike Zander (So., Bismarck, N.D.) and
Kavya Singh (So., Agra, India) fell 7-5 to Maria Paz Aoki and Claudia Munoz Perez. At the No. 2 doubles slot, Schneider and
Sarah Velasquez (Sr., Chino, Calif.) fell 7-5 to Grott and Arisa Kashima.
The Golden Eagles were competitive in other singles matches. Zander took two games off Paz Aoki, falling 6-2, 6-2.
Michelle Swyter (Sr., Perham, Minn.) fell 6-1, 6-2 to Munoz Perez. Velasquez was defeated 6-2. 6-1 by Kashima.
Tasha Achermann (Sr., Motley, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-2 to Johana Brower. At the No. 6 slot,
Ashley Chomyn (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Maria Molitor.
Minnesota Crookston returns to action Friday, February 10 at Choice Health and Fitness against the University of Minnesota Morris at 4:30 p.m.
