CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team looks to continue their historic start this weekend. The Golden Eagles have their best start in program history with a 3-1 mark. Minnesota Crookston will compete in a non-conference match Friday, February 17 against Crown College. The Golden Eagles will then get back into NSIC play Winona State University Saturday, February 18 at 5 p.m. at the Winona Tennis Center. The Golden Eagles will then face Upper Iowa University Sunday, February 19 at 1 p.m. at the Winona Tennis Center in Winona, Minn.
Crown comes into the weekend with an 0-1 mark. Winona State enters the weekend with a 1-0 record, while Upper Iowa is 0-1 coming into the weekend.
Minnesota Crookston is propelled by reigning NSIC Player of the Week
Madeleine Schneider (Jr., Gartringen, Germany), who has an unblemished 4-0 singles mark at No. 1 singles. Schneider is just two wins away from the Golden Eagle record at No. 1 singles, surpassing Catherine Brown. Brown is also the school's record holder in overall singles wins with 26. Schneider is 3-1 at No. 2 doubles with
Sarah Velasquez (Sr., Chino, Calif.).
Kavya Singh (So., Agra, India) comes into the weekend with a 2-1 mark at No. 3 singles. Singh and
Blaike Zander (So., Mandan, N.D.) lead the Golden Eagles at No. 1 doubles with a 3-1 mark. Velasquez comes into the weekend with a 3-0 record at No. 5 singles, while
Ashley Chomyn (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) is 3-1 at No. 6 singles.
Crown is paced at No. 1 singles by Annie Doyle, who is 1-0 this season. In doubles, Doyle and Jaidence Medina are 0-1. Winona State is guided by Beth Murman at No. 1 singles, with a 1-0 mark. Rachel Kelly is 1-0 at the No. 2 slot.
Upper Iowa is led in doubles by Johanne Vallee and Rafaela Tavares, who are 0-1 at No. 1 doubles. In singles, Varvara Ogorodnikova is 0-1 at No. 1 singles. Tavares comes in with an 0-1 mark at No. 2 singles.
