
BURNSVILLE, Minn. – University of Minnesota Crookston tennis player Madeline Schneider (Jr., Gartringen, Germany) was announced as the NSIC Player of the Week after going 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 2 doubles last weekend against Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota Morris.
Schneider has aided Minnesota Crookston to their best start in program history with a 3-1 mark. In addition, she helped the Golden Eagles to their first NSIC win since 2014 with Saturday's 6-1 win over Bemidji State. She defeated Bemidji State's Blanca Lopez-Oro in singles, 7-5, 6-2, and Minnesota Morris' Kiley Rodarmel, 6-0, 6-1. She is an unblemished 4-0 in singles this season.
In doubles, Schneider teamed with
Sarah Velasquez (Sr., Chino, Calif.) to defeat Isabela Nelson and Laura Burger of Bemidji State, 6-0, and Minnesota Morris' Valerie Gail and Abby Burquest, 6-1. The pair is 3-1 in doubles this season.
Schneider is the first Golden Eagle tennis player to win a weekly award from the NSIC.
The Golden Eagles continue their season Friday, February 17 against Crown College. They compete February 18 and 19 in Winona, Minn., against Winona State University and Upper Iowa University.
