Minnesota Crookston Set For Barry University Classic in Florida

CROOKSTON, Minn. - • THE MINNESOTA CROOKSTON women's basketball team enters their trip to the Sunshine State with a 3-2 (1-0 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles opened NSIC play Tuesday with a 67-54 victory over Minot State University. Minnesota Crookston plays Lynn University Friday, November 24 at 12 p.m. C.T., and Barry University Saturday, November 25 at 2 p.m. C.T. in Miami Shores, Fla. Minnesota Crookston is averaging 78.4 points per game, and allowing 64.2 points per tilt. The Golden Eagles are shooting 43.9 percent from the field, and 37.2 percent from beyond the arc. Minnesota Crookston has the rebounding edge 47.6-41.8. The Golden Eagles have held their last three opponents under 55 points. 

• FIRST NSIC WIN. Natalie Moynihan picked up her first NSIC win Tuesday versus Minot State University. With the 3-2 mark, Moynihan is off to the best start of any full-time head coach for Minnesota Crookston in their first season since Janna Hjelseth went 16-10 during the 1989-90 season. Moynihan is in her first season leading the ship at Minnesota Crookston. She was an assistant coach at Bridgeport University the previous two seasons.

• MILLER TIME. Minnesota Crookston sophomore guard Emma Miller has done a bit of everything this season for the Golden Eagles. Miller is third in the NSIC in scoring with 21.2 points per game. She is also third in the NSIC in rebounding per game, averaging 9.8 rebounds per tilt. In addition, she is second in assists per game with 5.6 helpers per tilt. Miller is coming off 23 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists against Minot State University. Miller notched 18 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists against Crown College. Her best scoring performance came with 31 points versus Northwest Missouri State University. Miller has three games with 10 or more rebounds this season. In addition, she has four games with five or more assists. 

• HEY NIKKI. Nicole Hernandez, a redshirt junior from Oak Creek, Wis., is coming off one of her best games as a 
Golden Eagle against Minot State. Hernandez tallied a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds against the Beavers. Hernandez comes in notching 6.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. She had nine points and five boards versus North Central University. Hernandez is a crucial player in the post for Minnesota Crookston, and will be important against Lynn, and Barry.

• GET IT TO JANIE. Sophomore Janie Tormanen has been a key player for Minnesota Crookston. The Menahga, Minn., native is averaging 14.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Tormanen is shooting 55.4 percent from the field. She had 10 points and nine boards versus Minot State University. Tormanen had two game with 19 points this season against Northwest Missouri State University and North Central. 

• SUNSHINE STATE. The Golden Eagles have taken several trips to Florida, including last season. In their trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the Golden Eagles won 83-77 over Palm Beach Atlantic University, and fell 86-63 to Nova Southeastern 
University. Minnesota Crookston is 1-4 in Florida in the last 20 seasons. The Golden Eagles will play Lynn University for the first time ever, and they are 0-2 in their history against Barry University. Minnesota Crookston lost November 25, 2017 to the 
Buccaneers 71-61, and November 24, 2010 71-62.

• IMPACT FRESHMEN. Minnesota Crookston has two true freshmen who have made major impacts right away for the Golden Eagles. Olivia Walsh (Fr., F, Austin, Minn.) has started five games. She is averaging 9.0 points and 8.0 boards per game. Walsh is shooting 48.3 percent from the field. She had 10 points against Nebraska Kearney, and 11 against Crown. Walsh is coming off eight points and 12 boards against Minot State. Rayna Klejeski (Fr., F, Barnum, Minn.) has made a major impact for the Golden Eagles. Klejeski is averaging 6.8 points and 5.0 boards per game. Klejeski had 13 points against Crown. SHe had nine points and 11 boards in the win over North Central. 

• TARYN UP MY HEART. Sophomore guard Taryn Frazer, a native of Cass Lake, Minn., adds a lot to the Golden Eagle attack. She started one game, and has played in all of the games for the Golden Eagles. Frazer comes in notching 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per tilt.

• A LITTLE HOPE. Redshirt freshman guard Hope Dudycha, a native of Austin, Minn., has started three of five games for the Golden Eagles. Hope Dudycha is notching 5.6 points per tilt. Dudycha and her twin sister Emma Dudycha compete for Minnesota Crookston. Hope Dudycha had a season-high eight points versus North Central. 

LYNN. The Lynn University Fighting Saints enter Friday's game in Miami Shores, Fla., with a 2-1 mark. The Fighting Saints are coming off a 63-57 loss against Virginia State University November 20. Lynn went 23-9 last season, on their way to a NCAA Tournament berth. The Fighting Saints come in averaging 71.7 points per game, while allowing 60.0 per game to their foes. They are shooting 46.2 percent from the field, and an astonishing 42.5 percent from beyond the arc. They are hitting at a 68.9 percent clip from the line. Lynn is outrebounding foes 41.3-33.0 this season.

TRINITY FOR THREE. Trinity Mocadlo leads Lynn with 14.7 points per game. Mocadlo is hitting at a 60.0 percent clip from deep this season. She is connecting on 46.9 percent of her shots overall. Mocadlo's best performance came with 19 points against Virginia State. She had 16 against Christian Brothers University. Mocadlo is a freshman from Greenville, Wis. 

FIORE ON FIRE. Ella Fiore comes into the weekend notching 14.3 points per game, and 6.7 rebounds per tilt. She is shooting 58.6 percent from the field this season. Fiore has been consistent this season. She had 15 against Shorter and Christian Brothers, and notched 13 versus Virginia State. 

STROEMEL IN THE POST. Carly Stroemel gives the Fighting Saints an experienced post presence. The 6-3 graduate student is notching 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She is shooting 52.2 percent from the field. Stroemel had 12 points against Christian Brothers. She notched eight points and seven rebounds the last time out against Virginia State. 

BARRY. Barry University comes into the week with a 2-1 mark. They lost a close one to Virginia State, 71-69 on November 17. The Buccaneers have wins over Christian Brothers and Shorter. They are coming off a 14-15 season in 2022-23. The Bucaneers are in their first season under Head Coach Heather Macy, who was most recently at Greensboro College. She has also coached at Pfeiffer, Francis Marion, East Carolina, and Spartanburg Methodist. The Buccaneers are averaging 77.3 points per game, while only allowing 58.7 to their foes. They are shooting 42.4 percent from the field, just 24.5 percent from deep, and 69.9 percent from the charity stripe. 

FUELED BY FUSARI. Senior Guard Chiara Fusari, a native of Pavia, Italy, leads the team with 18.3 points per game. Fusari is shooting 35.3 percent from the field, 27.3 percent from distance, and 88.9 percent from the line. She had 22 against Christian Brothers, and 24 versus Virginia State. She will be a crucial player this weekend. 

WATCH OUT FOR JENNINGS. Audrey Jennings comes into the week notching 16.0 points, and 4.0 rebounds per game. She is shooting 38.1 percent from the field, and 23.5 percent from deep. Jennings has scored in double figures all three games this season. 

LINDSEY OFF THE BENCH. Kayla Lindsey has been an important piece off the bench for Barry, notching 8.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Lindsey is shooting an astonishing 71.4 percent from the field, as she has been the definition of efficiency. Lindsey had 12 points against Christian Brothers. She also added eight boards in that game.
