Minnesota Crookston Women's Basketball Opens NSIC Play Against Minot State

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team commences a busy week by opening conference play Tuesday, November 21 against Minot State University at 7:30 p.m. 

The Golden Eagles are looking to improve on their 2-2 start. Minot State University enters with a 1-5 record. The two teams split the series last year, with Minot State winning the last meeting 86-68 in Minot. The Golden Eagles had previously won two-consecutive games.

Minnesota Crookston is 2-2 to open the Natalie Moynihan era. The Golden Eagles are coming off wins over North Central University and Crown College last week at the friendly confines of Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles lost their season-opening games to the University of Nebraska Kearney and Northwest Missouri State University. Minnesota Crookston comes into the week shooting 45.8 percent from the field, and 40.5 percent from three-point range. They are outscoring their foes 81.3-66.8. The Golden Eagles are outrebounding foes 45.0-40.3. They are averaging 16.3 turnovers per game. Minnesota Crookston tries to ramp up the pace offensively. They will look to trim down the turnovers Tuesday.

Miller Time - Emma Miller has picked up where she left off last season. The NSIC Freshman of the Year is doing a bit of everything this year. Miller, a sophomore from Albertville, Minn., is averaging 20.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. She is shooting 47.7 percent from the field, 52.0 percent from beyond the arc, and is a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. Miller will look to guide the way against the Beavers. She averaged 25.5 points per game against the Beavers in two meetings last year.

Off The Bench - Rayna Klejeski, a freshman forward from Barnum, Minn., made her presence known Saturday against Crown College. Klejeski had 13 points and six boards in the win over the Polars. She comes into the weekend notching 8.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Liv from Austin - Olivia Walsh is another freshman who is making a major impact for the Golden Eagles. A native of Austin, Minn., Walsh enters Tuesday notching 9.3 points and 7.0 boards per game. Walsh is shooting 50.0 percent from the field. She had 11 points versus Crown, and had 10 against Nebraska Kearney. Walsh will continue to be vital for Minnesota Crookston's success this week.

Janie In The Post- Janie Tormanen, a sophomore from Menahga, Minn., has continued to make strides for Minnesota Crookston. Tormanen has been a major part of the Golden Eagles so far through four games. She comes into the week averaging 15.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Tormanen is shooting a phenomenal 56.5 percent from the field. It will be crucial to get Tormanen touches on Tuesday. 

Taryn Up My Heart - Taryn Frazer, a sophomore guard from Cass Lake, Minn., continues to be a key person in the Golden Eagle line-up. She has started one game and has come off the bench for three. Frazer comes in notching 6.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per tilt. She had a season-high nine points last Saturday against Crown.

A Little Hope - Hope Dudycha is in her first season on the court for U of M Crookston after redshirting last season. Dudycha joins her twin Emma Dudycha, who saw the court last season. Hope has started the last two games. She is averaging 5.8 points per game, while shooting 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. 

Minot State enters the game with a 1-5 mark. The Beavers have played a tough schedule, including three Top 25 teams. Minot State is coming off a 79-62 loss to No. 12/15 Montana State University Billings. They defeated Florida Tech November 4. Minot State played a close game with the University of Tampa, ranked No. 3, falling 63-57. The Beavers are averaging 59.2 points per game, and allowing 71.2. They come in shooting 36.3 percent from the field, and 28.3 percent from behind the three-point line. The Beavers are being outrebounded 41.7-31.0. They are committing 14.8 turnovers per game.

Get It To Syd - Minot State junior Sydney Gustavsson leads the team with 11.8 points per game. She comes into Tuesday shooting 40.0 percent from the field. Her best game came with 17 in the win over Florida Tech. She has tallied double-figure scoring four times this season.

Give Me Some Mogen - Beaver guard Emma Mogen enters the week averaging 7.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Mogen is shooting 32.7 percent from the field. She had a season-high 10 points against Tampa.

From Western Australia - Western Australia native Jaime Skeggs is averaging 6.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per tilt. She is shooting 34.8 percent from beyond the arc. Skeggs had 12 points against Angelo State.
