Jamestown Scores Decisive Goal Late to Defeat Minnesota Crookston 6-5

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The University of Jamestown came from behind to defeat the University of Minnesota Crookston 6-5 Saturday, October 14.  The two WCCHA foes played at John L. Wilson Arena in Jamestown, N.D. The Jimmies scored three goals in the final 12:07 to win the tilt. 

Minnesota Crookston dropped to 0-2 (0-2 WCCHA) with Saturday's loss. Jamestown improved to 4-0 (2-0 WCCHA). The Golden Eagles continue to have the edge in the series 7-5.

The Golden Eagles were led by a goal and two assists from Zach Larson (Sr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.). Aidan McPhee (Fr., D, Brea, Calif.) chipped in two assists. Nathan Ayotte (Fr., F, Morris, Manitoba) added a goal and an assist. 

Jamestown took the 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on an unassisted goal from Lukas Brockman.

Minnesota Crookston knotted the game 1-1 at the 2:14 mark of the second period when Ayotte scored off a McPhee helper. The Jimmies took the lead back 2-1 just under 20 seconds later when Brockman scored off assists from Josh Bishop, and Hunter Rossland. Minnesota Crookston tied the score up 2-2 in the fifth minute when Dylan Borseth (Sr., F, Williston, N.D.) found the back of the net, off helpers from Larson, and Ayotte. The Golden Eagles went up 3-2 in the 16th minute on a Jackson Fuller (Jr., F, Bloomington, Minn.) goal off assists from Larson, and McPhee. The U of M Crookston pushed their lead to 4-2 in the 17th minute off a tally from Fox Dodds (Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.), with assists from Tyler Zahradka (Sr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.), and Anthony Foster (Fr., F, Warroad, Minn.). The Jimmies trimmed the lead to 4-3 in the final second of the second period with a goal from Joshua Hoffman, off assists from Brockman, and Josh Moe.

The Golden Eagles pushed their advantage to 5-3 at the 7:29 mark, with a goal from Larson, off assists from Parker Sunderland (Jr., D, Bagley, Minn.), and Logan Syrup (Jr., F, Park River, N.D.). Jamestown made the late charge after Larson's goal. Less than 30 seconds later, Ben Hines scored for the Jimmies, off an assist from Christopher Wracker. Jamestown added to their charge just 12 seconds later when Bishop scored off assists from Hoffman, and Brockman. Jamestown scored the game winner with 1:08 remaining, as Bishop scored off helpers from Hoffman, and Brockman.

Ethan Haglund started in goal for the Jimmies, allowing five goals. Jared Aamold (Jr., G, Breckenridge, Minn.) got the nod for the Golden Eagles, allowing six tallies.

Minnesota Crookston makes their home debut over Homecoming against the University of Minnesota, with the series opener Friday, October 20 at 7 p.m.
