Minnesota Crookston Hosts Saint John's for Final Home WCCHA Tilts of the Season

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston hockey program, ranked 19th nationally and fifth in the ACHA Division II Central Region, is set to host their final home WCCHA games of the season Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 against Saint John's University. Puck drop will be 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles are looking to rebound after a tough weekend at the University of Minnesota Duluth. The Golden Eagles lost Saturday and tied in regulation, but lost the shootout to the Bulldogs on Sunday. Minnesota Crookston comes into the weekend with a 16-4-1 (10-3-1 WCCHA). The Golden Eagles are second in the WCCHA Northwest Division and have already reserved their spot in the WCCHA Tournament in Blaine, Minn. February 10-12. Saint John's has a 7-7-0 mark on the season. They are fourth in the WCCHA Northwest Division.

Minnesota Crookston is guided by Logan Syrup (So., F, Park River, N.D.), who has a team-high 23 goals and 24 assists. Syrup has four power-play goals and three game-winning goals. Jackson Fuller (So., F, Minneapolis, Minn.) enters the weekend with 15 goals and 20 helpers on the season. Zach Larson (Jr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) comes in with 15 goals and 15 assists. Tyler Zahradka (So., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) enters Friday's game with 16 goals and 12 assists. Jake Huska (Jr., D, Snow Lake, Manitoba) is the top scoring defensemen with eight goals and 15 assists.

In goal, Jared Aamold (So., G, Breckenridge, Minn.) has played in 11 games with a 2.56 goals against average and a .909 saves percentage. Jake Sumner (Jr., G, Alta Loma, Calif.) has appeared in seven games and has a 2.41 goals against average. Braden Schmitz (So., G, Devils Lake, N.D.) has also appeared in seven games and boasts a 2.92 goals against average. Wyatt Olsonawski (Fr., G, Hallock, Minn.) joined the team at semester and has played one game with a 0.00 goals against average.

Saint John's is coming off a sweep last weekend of Gustavus Adolphus College. The Johnnies are led by Sawyer Schugel with nine goals and six assists. Carter Hermanson leads the team with assists with 12 and has four goals to go with his helpers. Owen Quast comes in with eight goals and six assists. Logan Woods leads the Johnnies on the power play with two power-play goals on the season. Davis Carlson is the top scoring defensemen with three goals and seven assists. In goal, Benjamin Monsivais has started seven games. He has a 4.97 goals against average, while Nathaniel Gfoerer has started six games and boasts a 4.02 goals against average.
