Sioux Falls Uses Efficient Offensive Attack to Sweep Minnesota Crookston

Crookston, Minn. – After defeating Bemidji State in five sets on Friday night, the University of Sioux Falls left no doubt on Saturday, defeating Minnesota Crookston in straight sets (14-25, 15-25, 11-25).

The Golden Eagles fall to 2-12 (1-5 NSIC), while USF improves to 9-4 (5-1 NSIC).

Set One
The Cougars would score the first two points, but Bailey Schaefer (So., OH, Brandon, Minn.) would collect a kill, putting the Golden Eagles on the board.

Minnesota Crookston would tie things up at three after a pair of Cougars errors, but USF would score the next six, taking a 9-3 lead.

USF would eventually stretch their lead to 14-7, but a pair of Audrey Cariveau (Fr., OH, Kevil, Kent.) kills cut the lead to 14-9.

USF would pull away from that point, winning the opening set, 25-14.

Set Two
The Cougars would once again start fast, scoring the first four points of the set, but two straight Schaefer kills and a Layne Whaley (So., DS, Ashland, Neb.) service ace cut the lead to 5-4.

Another Schaefer kill and a Madison Klimek (Sr., DS, Oakdale, Minn.) service ace tied things up at eight.

From that point, it would be all Cougars, who would win the set 25-15.

Set Three
USF would score the first ten points of the set, forcing a Golden Eagle timeout. Following the timeout, the Golden Eagles would score the next two points.

A Kora Norland (So., S, Fosston, Minn.) service ace got the Golden Eagles within nine, but the Cougars would win the set by 14 and the match, three sets to none.

Schaefer led the way with six kills on 18 total swings, while Cariveau and Charlee Krieg (Jr., OH, Cavalier, N.D.) each finished with four kills.
