Minnesota Crookston Equestrian Falls to Delaware State in Opening Round of ECAC Championship

HARRINGTON, Del. - The University of Minnesota Crookston Equestrian Team competed in their first-ever ECAC Equestrian Championship Thursday, March 24 at the State Fairgrounds in Harrington, Del. Minnesota Crookston, the six-seed, fell 20-0 to Delaware State, the three-seed.

The Golden Eagles were led in Fences by the ride of Keira Boedigheimer (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), who fell 154-147 to Megan Winborne on Kassie. Morgan Schelske (Sr., Zimmerman, Minn.) fell 158-129 to Gabrielle Fournier on Tillie.

In Flat, Kaitlyn Fedewa (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) was defeated 149.5-129.5 by Mirey Kurkcuoglu on Carlus.

Minnesota Crookston was highly competitive in Horsemanship. Olivia Becker (Sr., Deer Park, Wis.) narrowly loss 144-140 to Casey Johnson on Mya. April Klecker (Sr., Amboy, Minn.) had a great ride and fell just short 141-140.5 to Alexis Grogan on Mac. Beatrice Streifel (Sr., Hawley, Minn.) had a good ride, but fell 142-133.5 to Kelsey McArthur on Brady.

The Golden Eagles were also very competitive in Reining. Klecker had a competitive ride, but fell 134-128.5 to Grace Wilson on Chili. Streifel also had a solid ride, but was defeated 146.5-138.5 by Aidan Stetzer on Cooper. Becker fell narrowly 143.5-139 to Amber Van Segbrook on Lucky. Ashton Wold (Jr., Devils Lake, N.D.) came very close, but fell 140.5-137 to Anastasia Brugger on Lyle. 

The Hornets advance to face University of Tennessee-Martin in the second round of the ECAC Championship Friday, March 25.
