ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 5-2 to the University of Scranton Tuesday, March 15 in Orlando, Fla.
Minnesota Crookston dropped to 1-8. They split in their matches in Orlando, with a 7-0 win over Stevenson Monday. Scranton improved to 5-3 with the victory.
Minnesota Crookston picked up two doubles wins, and a singles victory. At the No.6 slot,
Ashley Chomyn (Jr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) moved to 4-0 on the season with a 6-0, 4-6, 10-5 win over Taralyn Reilly. In doubles, the No. 1 pair of
Sarah Velasquez (So., Chino, Calif.) and Schneider picked up an 8-5 win against Lily Nowak and Marissa Campo. At the No. 3 slot,
Tasha Achermann (So., Motley, Minn.) and
Kaydance Hinn (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) earned an 8-2 win over Julia Nocentino and Lydia Grossman.
At the No. 5 slot in singles, Gutierrez put up a strong battle but fell 6-4, 7-6, 10-5. Achermann was close at the No. 4 spot in the first set against Claire Loughlin 7-6, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles pair of Gutierrez and Swyter played close with Loughlin and Mayjah Jean-Pierre, but fell 8-4.
Minnesota Crookston will return to the court March 25 against Bethany Lutheran College in Grand Forks, N.D.
