Minneapolis, Minn. – The University of Minnesota scored five third period goals to upset Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, 7-2.
The Golden Eagles fall to 11-2 on the season and will look for the split tomorrow against the Gophers at 12 P.M., in Mariucci Arena.
The Golden Gophers would strike first, but the Golden Eagles would answer on a
Logan Syrup (So., F, Park River, N.D.) goal on an assist from
Sam Baxter (So., D, Grafton, N.D.) and
Jackson Fuller (So., F, Minneapolis, Minn.).
The Golden Gophers would score the lone goal in the second, taking a 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
Minnesota would score the first three goals of the third period, leading 5-1.
Syrup would deposit his second goal of the night and team-high 14
th goal of the season, with an assist from
Griffen Sonstegard (Fr., D, Baudette, Minn.).
The Golden Gophers would score the final two goals, for the 7-2 victory.
Jared Aamold (So., G, Breckenridge, Minn.) would make 20 saves in the game, but get a game misconduct and be disqualified midway through the second period.
Braden Schmitz (So., G, Devils Lake, N.D.) would come in for relief of Aamold and make 23 saves.
