Crookston, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston fought hard, but No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul proved to be too much for the Golden Eagles, who fell in straight sets (13-25, 19-25, 18-25).
The Golden Eagles fall to 3-16 (2-9 NSIC), while the Golden Bears continue their winning ways and move to 17-2 (10-1 NSIC).
First Set
The Golden Bears would open up the match with a point, but
Bailey Schaefer (So., OH, Brandon, Minn.) would put the Golden Eagles on the board with a kill.
CSP would stretch their lead to 6-3, but Minnesota Crookston would answer back with a Schaefer kill and a
Natalie Koke (R-Sr., S, Caledonia, Wis.) service ace.
CSP would stretch their lead to 20-10, but a pair of attacking errors by the Golden Bears would get them back within eight.
The Golden Bears would finish off the Golden Eagles for the 25-13 win in the opening set.
Set Two
Mara Weisensel (Jr., MB, New Ulm, Minn.) and
Charlee Krieg (Jr., OH, Cavalier, N.D.) would get the Golden Eagles out to an early 2-0 lead.
CSP would lead 5-3, but an
Audrey Cariveau (Fr., OH, Kevil, Kent.) kill halted the run with a kill.
CSO would double up the Golden Eagles and lead 12-6, but the Golden Eagles would score three in a row, capped off by a Koke kill.
The Golden Eagles would get within two five different instances in the set, but the Golden Bears would pull away for the set two victory by six.
Set Three
Yet again, the Golden Eagles would get off to a 3-1 lead in the third set, highlighted by kills from Krieg and Schaefer.
After a kill from Cariveau, the set would be knotted up at five, but the Golden Bears would go on a 3-0 run to take an 8-5 lead.
CSP would lead 22-16, but a rare attacking error from Jasmine Mulvihill and a kill from Weisensel got the Golden Eagles back within four.
CSP would score the final three points for the 25-18 win in the set and a 3-0 win in the match.
Individual Stats
Cariveau led the way with eight kills on 37 total attacks. The freshman finished with 87 total attacks on the weekend. Juniors Krieg and Weisensel each finished with six kills in the match.
Koke finished the night with 19 assists and six digs.
Layne Whaley (So., DS, Ashland, Neb.) also finished with six digs in the match.
What's Next
Minnesota Crookston will head on the road next weekend for a pair of matches with Winona State and Upper Iowa. First serve with the Warriors is set for 6 P.M.
