Upper Iowa Sweeps Minnesota Crookston in NSIC Action

Fayette, Iowa – After going to five when Upper Iowa and Minnesota Crookston played earlier this season, Upper Iowa would sweep the Golden Eagles this time around (23-25, 10-25, 16-25).

Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-18 (2-11 NSIC), while the Peacocks improve to 12-8 (6-7 NSIC).

Set One
UIU would jump out to an early 6-2 lead after scoring four in a row, but that run would be halted with a Natalie Koke (R-Sr., S, Caledonia, Wis.) kill.

Following that kill, the Peacocks would stretch their lead to 15-7, but the maroon and gold would fight back.

A pair of attacking errors and a pair of Charlee Krieg (Jr., OH, Cavalier, N.D.) kills would get the Golden Eagles back within three at 17-14.

Madison Klimek (Sr., DS, Oakdale, Minn.) would get a service ace, propelling the Golden Eagles to knot things up at 21.

The Golden Eagles would be within a point at 24-23, but a kill for the Peacocks would help them win the first set by two at 25-23.

Set Two
The second set would not be the Golden Eagles set.

The Golden Eagles would be within 8-5 after an Audrey Cariveau (Fr., OH, Kevil, Kent.) service ace, but the Peacocks would then pull away for a 25-10 victory in the second set.

Set Three
For the second time in three sets, UIU would go up 6-2 early on in the set.

A pair of kills from Krieg and Mara Weisensel (Jr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) would cut the Peacock lead to 7-6.

UIU would extend their lead to 17-11, but a pair of attacking errors from the Peacocks would get the Golden Eagles within four at 17-13.

UIU would then score the next four points following that point and that is all they would need for the 25-16 win in the set and 3-0 match sweep.

Individual Stats
Cariveau and Krieg led the way with eight kills apiece, while Weisensel had five on 12 total attacks. For the second straight match, Koke finished with four kills.

Cariveau also finished with 15 digs in the match.
