Duluth, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston was back on the road for the third straight time at No. 4 Minnesota Duluth. The No. 4 Bulldogs showed why Romano Gymnasium is so tough to play in, sweeping the Golden Eagles in three (12-25, 15-25, 11-25).
Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-19 (2-12 NSIC), while the Bulldogs improve to 20-2 (12-2 NSIC).
First Set
UMD would get off to a barking start, jumping out to a 10-1 lead.
Audrey Cariveau (Fr., OH, Kevil, Kent.) would collect one of her eight kills to cut the lead to 10-2.
The Bulldogs would lead 19-6, but an attacking error by the Bulldogs would get the Golden Eagles back within 12 at 19-7.
Trailing 24-8, the Golden Eagles would use four straight Bulldog errors to cut the lead to 25-12, but the Bulldogs would finish off the set for the 13 point set one victory.
Second Set
The Golden Eagles would jump out to an early lead, helped by a Cariveau kill and a couple of UMD errors to lead 3-0.
The Bulldogs would come back and take a 7-4 lead, but
Charlee Krieg (Jr., OH, Cavalier, N.D.) would get the deficit back to two at 7-5.
UMD would score six in a row before a service error by the 'Dogs would halt the run.
The Golden Eagles would go on a pair of 3-0 runs, but the Bulldogs would close out the Golden Eagles in the second stanza.
Third Set
UMD would score the first ten points of the third set, but the Golden Eagles would answer with five in a row of their own, helped by a trio of Cariveau kills.
UMD would halt the run and would close out the Golden Eagles for the sweep.
Individual Stats
Once again, Minnesota Crookston was led by Cariveau, who finished with eight kills, while Krieg finished with four kills.
Natalie Koke (R-Sr., S, Caledonia, Wis.) finished with 14 assists.
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they host another ranked team, No. 7 St. Cloud State at 2 PM. It is Cancer Awareness Day; Members of Minnesota Crookston SAAC will be raising money to help fight cancer.
