With the split, the Golden Eagles are now 8-24 (4-14 NSIC), while the Huskies move to 18-10 (7-7 NSIC) on the season.
Game One
Game one was an early offense kind of game. Both teams would score early and often, but not score after the third inning.
The Huskies would get on the board early in the game, scoring two runs on back-to-back RBI singles from Megan Conrads and Holly Weinberger, making it 2-0.
The theme in game one would be small-ball for the Golden Eagles.
Cassie Querry (Sr., C/3B, Cassville, Pa.) would cut the Huskies lead in half on an RBI single through the left side, scoring
Rachel Jones (Fr., UT, Fort Collins, Colo.).
The Golden Eagles would score five runs in the bottom of the second inning, using a handful of RBI singles, to take a 6-2 lead.
Sydney Trees would hit a three-run home run over the left field fence to cut the Golden Eagle lead to 6-5 in the top of the third.
The Huskies would threaten in almost every inning in game one, but
Katie Humhej (Sr., P, Surrey, British Columbia) would stifle the Huskie offense, allowing five runs on eight hits, while striking out 10, while earning her fifth win of the season.
Offensively, the Golden Eagles were led by
Dana Zarn (So., UT, Winnipeg, Manitoba) and her three hits.
Jordan Peterson (R-Jr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.) and
Alina Avalos (So., P/1B, Riverside, Calif.) each added two hits as well. The Golden Eagles collected nine hits in the game.
Game Two
Game two would have to wait a little longer to see some runs. The Huskies would score first in the top half of the fourth following a Holly Weinberger double.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Golden Eagles would use a throwing error on the Huskies catcher, scoring
Hailey Hatfield (Fr., UT, Olathe, Kan.) from third and
Hannah Macias (Jr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) all the way from first.
The Huskies would tie things up in the sixth, following a sacrifice fly.
SCSU would score three runs in the top half of the seventh to take a 5-2 lead, heading into the final half inning.
The young Golden Eagles wouldn't go down quietly. Minnesota Crookston would get the first three runners on, including a Sarah Velazquez (Fr., OF, Chino, Calif.) two-run double to the right field gap, cutting the lead to 5-4.
Minnesota Crookston would get Zarn on as the winning run, but weren't able to move her past second. Jones would strikeout to end the game and the Golden Eagles falling 5-4.
Hatfield led the way with two hits on the day for the Golden Eagles, who had seven as a team in game two.
In the circle,
Sofia Gombos (Fr., P, Salinas, Calif.) was good. The freshman went 6.1 innings, while giving up four runs on 10 hits, while striking out two.
