Wolves Pitching Prove to be Too Much in Sweep of Golden Eagles

Aberdeen, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team wrapped up their weekend with a trip to Aberdeen, S.D., for a twin bill with Northern State.

The Wolves used unbelievable pitching in both games, holding the Golden Eagles to zero hits in both games.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 6-20 on the season, while the Wolves improve to 18-8 on the season.

Game One
The Wolves would score the only run of the game on a Golden Eagle error in the bottom of the third inning.

The pitching for both sides were excellent. Katie Humhej (Sr., P, Surrey, British Columbia) went the distance, allowing one run on six hits, while striking out three. The tough luck continued for the Golden Eagle ace, who gave up just two runs in 12 innings pitched this weekend, but fell to 3-8 on the season.

The Wolves did have two errors in the field in game one.

Game Two
The Wolves waited until the third inning to score, but they were able to score a run in the bottom of that inning, then followed that up with three runs in the fourth inning.

The Wolves would then score four in the bottom of the fifth to end the game due to the 8-0 score.

Sofia Gombos (Fr., P, Salinas, Calif.) went 4.1 innings while giving up six runs on eight hits while striking out one Wolves hitter.

What's Next
Minnesota Crookston will be back on the road as they travel to Fayette, Iowa on Saturday for a doubleheader with the Upper Iowa Peacocks. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
