CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota men's golf team is set to start their 2021 season competing in the Washburn Invitational at Topeka Country Club in Topeka, Kan. The invitational is scheduled for March 22 and 23. The team is looking to build off of their 2019-20 season. They ended last year with a good performance at the Embry-Riddle Invitational in Arizona before the rest of their spring season was canceled due to COVID-19.
The team has been able to keep a good core of guys together this year. They are led by
Connor Humble (Sr., Rosemount, Minn.). Humble maintained a 76.7 average last season and was able to shoot a season low 72 on two occasions, the J.R. Watkins Invite and the UMN Crookston/King's Walk Invite. The team was able to bring back
Keegan Poppenberg (So., Esko, Minn.) who shot 78.3 last year,
Brian Bekkala (Sr., Livonia, Mich.) who shot 81,
Dillon Sannes (Sr., Fertile, Minn.) who shot 83.3,
Matt Moroz (So., Edmonton, Alberta) who shot 90.6, and
Spencer Harvey (Sr., Cambridge, Minn.) who shot 96.7.
Ben Trostad (Jr., Crookston, Minn.) returns to the team after averaging 78.3
Cade Pederson (R Fr., West Fargo, N.D.) will be with the team this year after redshirting his season last year. The team also welcomes two newcomers in
Boede Guza (Fr., Chaska, Minn.) and
Spencer Dahlquist (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.). The team shot an average of 314.07 last season and will be looking to beat that mark starting on Monday.
