CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Mary, ranked No. 1 in ACHA Division II, defeated the University of Minnesota Crookston men's hockey team 9-1. The Marauders were led by two goals from Alexander Horner as they earned the sweep on the weekend.

The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 18 in their first season back on the ice in nearly a decade, fall to 2-5. UMary is 22-1-2-1. The last loss for the Marauders occurred Nov. 15 with a 3-2 overtime loss to University of Jamestown. UMary has won 11 straight games.

Minnesota Crookston finished with 18 shots on goal. The Golden Eagles were guided by a goal from Zach Larson (F, Grand Forks, N.D.), while Tristan Morneault (F, Dieppe, New Brunswick) had an assist. Tyler Zahradka (F, Grand Forks, N.D.) led UMN Crookston with five shots on goal.

UMary looked to Horner with two goals. Alex Flicek added one goal and two assists. Zach Garrett finished with one goal and two assists. Marshall Tschida chipped in two assists, while Cody Shepard had a goal and one assist, and Andrew Huber had two assists. The Marauders finished the game with 52 shots on goal.

UMary got the scoring going in the first five minutes of the game as Horner scored off assists from Tschida and Shepard to take a 1-0 lead. At the 12:02 mark, Kyler Moore found the back of the net on an unassisted goal. At the 15:05 mark, Flicek scored off assists from Garrett and Huber to push the lead to 3-0.

The Marauders added to their lead at the 7:20 mark of the second period with an unassisted goal from Johnny Witzke. UMary pushed the lead to 5-1 when Drew Lenertz scored off assists from Flicek and Garrett. Later in the second period, Garrett found the goal off assists from Huber and Tschida.

UMN Crookston got on to the scoreboard at the 15:30 mark of the second period when Larson found the back of the net off a pass from Morneault.

UMary extended their lead to 8-1 when Shepard scored off assists from Marcus Kopp and Flicek. The Marauders went ahead 9-1 at the 12:23 mark of the third period when Horner scored his second goal of the game off an assist from Jaren Hugelen.

The game had just one penalty committed by Minnesota Crookston's Ty Hamre (D/F, Crookston, Minn.

Conan Hayton got the win in goal for the Marauders allowing one goal with 17 saves. Jake Sumner (Fr., G, Alta Loma, Calif.) suffers the loss after allowing nine goals with 43 saves on the game.
UMN Crookston will return to the ice Fri., Feb. 12 at Williston State College at 7 p.m. at Pete Conlin Rink in Williston, N.D. The Golden Eagles will take on the Tetons Sat., Feb. 13 at 2 p.m.
