Minnesota Crookston Hockey Takes on Minnesota in Home Tilts Friday and Saturday

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston hockey team returns home Nov. 19 and 20 to host the University of Minnesota club hockey team at the Crookston Sports Center. The Golden Eagles will take on the Golden Gophers Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Minnesota is ranked fourth in the ACHA Division II Central Region.

Minnesota leads the Northwest Division of the WCCHA with a 5-0-1 mark. Minnesota Crookston is currently in fourth in the Northwest Division with a 2-2-2 (1-1-2 NSIC) record.

Minnesota Crookston earned a 4-4 tie and fell 6-3 at WCCHA Southeast Division leader Minnesota State University, Mankato last weekend. The Golden Eagles are 2-1-1 at home this season coming into the weekend.

The Golden Eagles have been led on the season by newcomers Logan Syrup (Fr., F, Park River, N.D.) and Nikolai Rajala (Fr., F, Coleraine, Minn.). The two freshmen lead the squad with 11 points (three goals and eight assists). Tyler Zahradka (So., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) is the team's leading goal scorer. Zahradka has seven goals and two assists on the season. 2020-21 ACHA Division II Second Team All-American Casey Kallock (Sr., D, Alvarado, Minn.) comes into the weekend with three goals and five assists. Dylan Borseth (Jr., F, Williston, N.D.) has also been a valuable asset this season. The Williston State College transfer has three goals and one assist. In addition, Sam Baxter (Fr., D, Grafton, N.D.) comes in with three assists on the year.

In goal, UMN Crookston has utilized all four of their goalies. Braden Schmitz (Fr., G, Devils Lake, N.D.) leads the way with a 2.51 goals against average in over 167 minutes on the ice. Jared Aamold (Fr., G, Breckenridge, Minn.) has also been strong, as he enters the weekend with a 2.53 goals against average in over 142 minutes in net.

Minnesota Preview
Minnesota was last in action Nov. 5 and 6 against St. Cloud State University. The Golden Gophers swept the weekend with wins of 7-0 and 6-1. The Golden Gophers are guided by Max Boll with nine goals and 13 assists. In addition to Boll, Tyler Linnerooth comes into the weekend with five goals and 13 assists. Shane Griffin has had a strong season for Minnesota with eight goals and nine assists, while William Kopka has eight goals and five assists. On defense, Jonathan Kwasny has one goal and eight assists for the Golden Gophers.

In goal, Zach Walker has played in four games with a 2.00 goals against average and a .907 saves percentage. Chase Kvaal has started five games and has a 3.99 goals against average with a .883 saves percentage, while Cecil Meredith has started two games with a 1.50 goals against average and a .948 saves percentage.
