Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State fans were in for a busy Friday, as they had a number of sporting events on campus, including their top-ranked hockey team taking on No. 2 St. Cloud State on Friday night. First, they saw their volleyball team defeat the Golden Eagles in three sets (17-25, 15-25, 12-25) from the Taylor Center.
The Golden Eagles fall to 1-12 (0-8 NSIC), while the Mavericks improve to 9-7 overall (4-4 NSIC).
Set One
The Golden Eagles would get a pair of kills from youngsters
Bailey Schaefer (Fr., OH, Brandon, Minn.) and
Mara Weisensel (So., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) to make it 3-2 Mavericks early on in the first set.
The Mavs would score four-straight points to take an 8-3 lead, but
Charlee Krieg (So., OH, Cavalier, N.D.) would deliver a kill to cut the lead to 8-4.
Trailing 14-7, the Golden Eagles would score three in a row, using all errors by the Mavericks to make it 14-10.
MSU would take control of the opening set and win it, 25-17.
Set Two
The Mavericks would score the first point of the set, but the maroon and gold would knot things up at one, using a Mavericks service error.
The Mavericks would extend their lead to 7-3, but a Schaefer service ace and an attacking error from MSU would help the Golden Eagles deficit to just two.
The Golden Eagles would eventually make it 8-7, but the Mavericks would go on a 4-0 run to make it 12-7.
From that point on, the Mavericks would have five instances where they would score two points in a row to win the set at 25-15.
Set Three
A Schaefer kill would give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the match at 1-0. From there, it would be all Mavericks, who would eventually extend their lead to 13-4.
A Krieg kill and a
Natalie Koke (R-Jr., S, Caledonia, Wis.) service ace would cut the lead to 13-6.
MSU would score four-straight to make it 17-6 and that is all they would need to win the set, 25-12.
Individual Stats
Schaefer would lead the Golden Eagles with seven kills on 20 total attacks, while Weisensel collected five and
Lauren Wallace (R-Sr., OH, Bloomington, Minn.) had four kills in the match, as well as six digs.
Koke collected 15 assists on the day as well as three digs and a service ace.

The Golden Eagles will head to St. Paul for a date with the No. 4 Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears tomorrow afternoon. First serve is set for 5 P.M.
