St. Cloud State Sweeps Minnesota Crookston in St. Cloud on Saturday

St. Cloud, Minn. – Bailey Schaefer's (Fr., OH, Brandon, Minn.) fourth straight match with double-digit kills wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles fell in three sets on the road at No. 14 St. Cloud State (9-25, 16-25, 14-25).

The loss for the Golden Eagles drops them to 1-19 (0-15 NSIC), while the Huskies improve to 19-4 overall (14-1 NSIC).

Set One
The Golden Eagles would jump out to a good start, taking a 2-1 lead with the help of a Schaefer kill and big duo block of Natalie Koke (R-Jr., S, Caledonia, Wis.) and Maria Jose Bustos Garcia (Sr., MH, Cartagena, Columbia).

Minnesota Crookston would take a 4-2 lead after a Koke kill and a Husky attack error. Following that kill, the Huskies would go on a 14-1 run, including scoring 13 straight points.

The Golden Eagles would try to get back into the set, but the Huskies proved to be too strong, winning set one, 25-9.

Set Two
Once again, the Golden Eagles would lead 2-1, with the help of back-to-back kills from Lauren Wallace (Sr., OH, Bloomington, Minn.) and Mara Weisensel (Fr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.).

Another Wallace kill would tie things up at three and it started a 3-0 scoring run for the Golden Eagles, highlighted by a Bojana Stekovic (Jr., OH, Gornji Milanovac, Serbia) service ace.

The Golden Eagles would lead 10-6, but the Huskies would score eight straight points to take a 14-10 lead.

Charlee Krieg (So., OH, Cavalier, N.D.) and Weisensel made it 18-14 after two kills.

The Huskies won the second set 25-16.

Set Three
The Huskies would score four out of the first points in the third set to take a 4-1 lead.

Krieg would halt the run with a kill to make it 4-2, but in the middle of the set, the Huskies would score four straight points to take an 11-5 lead.

Two straight points would get the Golden Eagles back within four at 11-7, but a service error would halt the Golden Eagle run.

A Schaefer kill would make it 15-12, but a Maddy Torve kill would be the start of a 3-0 run, which is all the Huskies needed to win the final set 25-16 and the match, three sets to none.

Individual Stats
Schaefer led the way with 11 kills on 28 total swings, while Weisensel and Wallace collected five and four, respectively. Layne Whaley (Fr., DS, Ashland, Neb.) collected 12 digs in the match.

What's Next
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Tuesday at 6 P.M., as they host the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth in Crookston.
