Minnesota Crookston Women's Tennis Falls 7-0 to Roosevelt

ORLANDO, Fla.  – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team fell 7-0 to Roosevelt University in their first match at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

The Golden Eagles fall to 0-10 with Sunday's loss. Roosevelt improves to 5-3 with the win in Orlando, Fla. The match was the first of three in the "Sunshine State" for the Golden Eagles.

Minnesota Crookston was led by their play in doubles, as both their No. 1 and No. 2 doubles pairs put up great efforts on Sunday. Reanne Erickson (Sr., Fargo, N.D.) and Ashley Smith (Fr., Staples, Minn.) put up a test against Gina Odisho and Kyla Eaton, winning four games from the pair of Lakers. However, the duo ultimately fell 8-4. Likewise was the effort at No. 2 doubles from Hanna Ruckheim (Jr., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and Diane Cilengi (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa) as the pair also fell 8-4 despite a solid effort against Emma Renteria and Ava Collins. At the No. 3 slot, Karen Hawley and Meryem Ahmed upended Hannah Zhao (Sr., Guangzhou, China) and Karli Renney (So., Detroit Lakes, Minn.).

In singles, Tori Koch (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) put up a great effort as she took four games in the first set, and two in the second frame, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-2 to Ahmed at the No. 6 slot. At No. 2 singles, Smith had a great effort against Eaton, but was defeated 6-1, 6-4. At the No. 1 spot, Erickson was defeated 6-0, 6-2 by Gina Odisho. At No. 3 singles, Ruckheim fell 6-2, 6-0 to Collins. At the No. 4 slot, Cilengi had a strong effort but was upended 6-2, 6-1 by Renteria. At No. 5 singles, Zhao had a strong effort but was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by LeAnn Peschel.
Minnesota Crookston competed Mon., March 11 in Orlando, Fla. against Missouri Western State University.
