BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team opened up the 2019 season with a 7-0 loss to Bemidji State University Tues., Feb. 5 at Gillett Wellness Center in Bemidji, Minn.
In doubles,
Ashley Smith (Fr., Staples, Minn.) and
Reanne Erickson (Sr., Fargo, N.D.) fell 6-0 to Zoe Lindgren and Ariadna Lopez-Simo.
Hanna Ruckheim (Jr., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and
Diane Cilengi (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa) were upended 6-0 at No. 2 doubles by Laney Rutkowski and Hannah Alme. At the No. 3 doubles spot,
Hannah Zhao (Sr., Guangzhou, China) and
Karli Renney (So., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) fell 6-0 to Brooke Mimmack and Breann Walsh.
In singles, Smith was able to take a game in each set off Alme as she fell 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. At the No. 4 singles spot, Cilengi took a game off Walsh in the first set but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-0. At the No. 1 slot, Erickson was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Lopez. At No. 3 singles, Mimmack defeated Ruckheim, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 5 spot, Rutkowski defeated Zhao, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 6 slot, Hannah Peterson defeated Renney, 6-0, 6-0.
Minnesota Crookston returns to action Sat., Feb. 9 against University of Minnesota Duluth at 2:30 p.m.
