GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team opened their home slate with a 7-0 loss to University of Mary Fri., Nov. 22 at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. The Golden Eagles continued to show growth as they were competitive in several matches.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 0-6 with Friday's loss. UMary improved to 5-1 with the win.
The Golden Eagles were led by
Diane Cilengi (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa), who put together a strong first set at No. 4 singles against Danielle Wolf. Cilengi hung right there, as she fell just 6-3 in set one, before being defeated 6-0 in the second set. At No. 3 singles,
Hanna Ruckheim (Jr., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) was competitive against Kelsey Lajom, but fell 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 1 slot,
Reanne Erickson (Sr., Fargo, N.D.) was upended 6-0, 6-0, by Tasha Dembo. At No. 2 singles,
Ashley Smith (Fr., Staples, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Yusra Hegry. At No. 5 singles,
Hannah Zhao (Sr., Guangzhou, China) was defeated 6-0, 6-0, by Kali Askvig. At No.6 singles,
Tori Koch (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Julie Donnelly.
In doubles, Erickson and Smith took a set from Dembo and Hegy, but fell 6-1. At the No. 2 slot, Ruckheim and Cilengi also took a set, but were defeated 6-1, by Wolf and Jamie Stoppler. At the No. 3 spot, Zhao and
Karli Renney (So., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) fell 6-0 to Lajom and Askvig.
Minnesota Crookston returns to action at 1:30 p.m. against Minnesota State University Moorhead at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
